I went to the Dr.s and had a pap done. I came up with the HPV and they said that this could be something I have carried since my 20's when I had a biopsy done and the results were neg. How does this affect me now that I am 40? They also said I was in the high risk for cancer.

tamalaatp, I too am in your situation, I just found out by phone, that I have severe dysplasia, not alot of other info...I am 44 and think I have had it for yearrrsss. I didn't even know alot about it till I came here. This really is a great site. If you ask someone will help. My prob is I don't even have a follow-up app. till Sept. 29. Do you have an app. to find out more? I have to keep thinking it's not the end of the world. I feel like I just want to go in and have everything taken out... I don't need it.. My mom died with what started out as uterine cancer and spread rapidly to everywhere... But I'm trying to stay posi. and wait... They might get me in sooner... The waiting is the hard part I think... And just cause your 40 doesn't mean anything any different than if you were 25... You have more wisdom and experience to be able to do what you know you have to do...

I actually have a follow up on Monday (17th). Does having a hysterectomy reduce the chances of cancer? I have seen on the site that the Dr's really don't test for what type, just high or low level strain. Have you requested a test to determine? I was thinking about it for monday. Thanks for the info. I am finding out that more and more women have it and it is very common and something that doesn't mean you were "dirty". Do you have any physical symptoms of your dysplasia or is it done only with tests? When I say I am green to all of this, I mean it. LOL Mantaining humor.

Hi all --- although the post heading says 40, I'll send in my story so you see there are some of us even older. First as someone pointed out to me, you probably should change your profiles to "members only" - right now you're posting to the "public" and we are sharing a lot of sensitive info. Just a suggestion! With that said, I wanted to share with you - I also recently had an abnormal PAP and was told I have the "high-risk" HPV (and same thing - they didn't test for which number it is - I wanted to know!) --- I'm 60 and haven't been sexually active for about 8 years! I just had the colposcopy and biopsy yesterday and waiting to see if it's really CIN1 (I hope). But if it's more I'll have to have a LEEP (will consider hyster. if it's way worse, etc.). Since we have the high risk HPV they will follow us more closely --- this site is wonderful as the women who submit. I suggest do a lot of research, ask tons of questions and talk to your doctor about all your options. Best to you both -
