I am currently a college student in Arkansas. We are working on creating a business which creates products to promote independence in children with motor disabilities - specifically cerebral palsy.

I was hoping to get some feedback as far as what kind of products you would like to see in the market. What frustration do you experience on a daily basis?

All insights are appreciated - we want to create products that parents want, not a product that we think parents want.

I am having a hard time finding the spoon and fork holders or marker or crayon holders that go around the child's hand. My grandson could feed himself if he could hold the spoon or fork consistently

Writing and art supply adaptations for problems addressing grip, tremor or spacticity. T adaptors work pretty well but paintbrushes, markers etc don't fit into them.

Would you be looking for more of an adapter for an existing product or for a completely stand alone product?
Like, a new fork/spoon design or just an adapter for current forks/spoons?
Same question is posed with the art/writing supplies.

I am frustrated by the cost of special needs equipment. I know that less of the population needs the product, but it seems to me that families that have the need also have the extra bills associated with a child who is in and out of the hospital etc... I wish there was a way to provide the special equipment at no cost or minimal cost to the families.

contat your local UCP office....they can usaully help with a few $ towards equipment with a letter from your doctor. In addition, there may be an agency that provides used equipment in your area. Do a google search or ask around. Also Easter Seals might be able to help.

Walkers and wheelchairs that can be custom made. It would be so nice to be able to change features without ordering a new walker everytime. My daughter has a kay walker. For school they wanted one with a seat. So we had to order a whole new walker-they couldnt just get a seat for it. When we did get walker with a seat. Walker only had 2 wheels so we had to use tennis balls for back wheels since you can't order just back wheels. My daugter goes thru tennis balls weekly.
Also all terrain features that could attach to existing walkers or chairs. I would love to be able to have walker/chair move easily in snow, grass, sand, hills. Also wheelchairs that distribute weight so easier to push up hills like a jogging stroller except on a reg wheelchair not just stroller type of chairs.
Thank you for asking for our opinions. Hope this helps :)

Implements to help open school lockers is a need we have recently come across. Some of the locker handles have a hole that a crochet hook like device might help a child open independently, others don't and I have no idea what would help. We were fortunate to find one locker that was easier to open and my daughter can manage it on her own. However, my second daughter had to get a locker that doesn't lock, which means that other students can get into her locker at will.

WE are in florida . We need a walker that has wheels that will go though sand.
