Saphris and swollen ankles/feet/lower legs

Has anyone out there starting taking the drug SAPHRIS and experienced severe swelling in ankles then feet then lower legs?

Not familiar with the medication (never heard of it) but what you describe sounds like the beginnings of congestive heart failure. How are your hands and arms. Usually blood pools in the feet and legs first, then hands and arms. Some medications can cause this. One way to know is to change medications one at a time and watch for physical/mental changes after the change. Sometimes changes do not show up right away so you want to have 4-6 weeks between medication changes to avoid confusion. If a medication causes edema (holding water) you want to bring this to your doctor's attention right away. Good luck.

Dear MonicaPz.....thank you so much for your reply....I too was alarmed that this could be my heart and called the doctor soon after my post and she called me in to the office right away. No swelling in hands just feet ankles and calfs....she was also alarmed because it was so swollen and put me on Lasix 20mg and hadme come back in a week and then put me on 40mg per day of Lasix. The swelling was slow to go down but after 3 weeks my feet and ankles and calfs are back to normal. I asked her if she thought I had a heart problem because I too was scared this may be the cause but she checked me out thoroughly and said she did not think this was it thank goodness. She thinks this is definitely a side effect of the drug Saphris after doing some research on the drug. I have Major Depressive Disorder and considered "treatment resistent" because of the number of antidepressants I have tried and not been able to "get my mind back out of the darkness" and Saphris has now given me my mind back. It is unbelievable after all this time and right now I am just struggling with Fibromyalgia recently diagnosed this pasy May so working on that "cocktail" of medications to manage the chronic pain. Thank you again for your reply, it is comforting to know that on this site there is always someone to talk to and ask questions about our illnesses. How about you? How are you doing?

God Bless....Mandi

hope you feel better soon. I dont have any advice just wanted to give you a encouraging word and let you know people care and pray for you.

Glad to hear you are getting better, Mandi. Turns out I have great difficulty with meds, as I have severe epilepsy. Either they don't work at all as if I am not taking anything at all, work for three months, then stop working or make me very ill, including seizures.

The only other thing I would suggest is to put your feet/legs up when sitting (on an ottoman) or on a pillow when laying in bed.
