I have had Lupus since 1996 and was on Predisone and Plaquenil until about a year ago. My Lupus has been somewhat controlled with these medications, experiencing only a few flares and minor arthritic pain. However, a year ago, the Lupus starting attacking my kidneys. I had a kidney biopsy, where they discovered a large amount of protein and decided to place me on CellCept in addition to the Prednisone and Plaquenil. I began taking 500 mg initially and was increased to 2,000 mg (pill form taken twice a day). I was on 60 mg of Prednisone and was tapered off of it completely. YAY! The first time I've been off of it in over 10 years! My last blood test and urinalysis indicated that my kidneys are now functioning properly. I was seeing my Nephrologist every other month until recently, when the hospital she's affiliated with stopped taking my insurance. Now, I'm on the 2,000 mg of CellCept and 150 mg of Plaquenil and am seeking another doctor. I know that her plans were to keep me on the CellCept for a year and then take me off. Now I'm struggling to find a doctor to take over her treatment plan. Has anyone been tapered down off of it and if so, did you start having problems again afterwards? I want to seriously get off of it, but don't want the kidney issues to return. Surprisingly, my Lupus has been under control and I haven't felt this GREAT in years! Any advice or suggestions are appreciated. THNX
