I never knew that there is a home inr testing kit,I have a major problem,my inrs are inconsistant and I want to know if you can still clot with this inconsistantcy and if I should be on other meds besides coumadin,at one point my inr was 8.2 then 1.86 and all over the place all in the last couple months.it is supposed to be between 3 and 4.There is the risk of bleeding internally and other complications.i have not gotten any straight answers from my doctors.Any advice?

HI I have the same things going on with my inr it is all over the place its low its high i cant get it normal sometimes when my doc calls me about my test he will ask me if i stopped taking coumadin cuz my inr is at 1.5 like i would stop taking meds then one nite i get a call at 9:00pm that my inr was 9.0 i had to stay in bed and start taking vitamin k to clot my blood i am so sick of this that i dont get my blood tested as often as i should so back to the home test kit i found it when i was looking for a support grp i really dont know that much about it i called my doc today to ask about it you do need a perscription for it and they work with medicare as far as getting a handle on this i dont know i was just looking for someone who understood what i was going through how do you feel day to day do you still work i had to go on perm disability in 1999 i feel tired all the time and dont go out un less i really have to it is nice to know i am not alone i knew i had lupus for many yrs before i had a seizure then they found out about the clotting i hope this helps and i look forword to chatting with you when my doc calls back i will tell you what happens

wow,it is great to know that someone understand's my frustrations,my inrs are still inconsistant, does this mean that we can still clot with this inconsistancy? I am at home with my 2 young boys and that's a full time job,I am trying my best to cope. Recently with all my symtoms they were suggesting Lupus itself but so far no diagnoses,I also have a history of seizures and bad migranes which is consistant with LA. Thanks for your post, take care and be safe

Hey,
i have the same thing i had blue cross blue shield and i got a coagu-chek machine. I love it, it has saved me so many times just last week my levels were way too low and had it been weeks i could have thrown a clot or worse. Medicaid may pay for it, call and pick their brain. Be careful about the machine you get, i had a different one that did not work ever and i had to fight the company to switch to a different machine completly. My doctors office uses the coagu-chek which is why i decided to get that one. Strips are not cheap if you lose your insurance, and if you are older it is harder to get a machine. I am 23 and had to fight for it, due to school, work etc.
Good luck though!
