I have had COPD for about 10 yrs now. Is your doctor a lung doctor? Did he do a spirmetery test on you? Did he take xrays? A Lung Doctor will do a test that will test the function of your lungs. He will put a clip on your nose tell you to take a deep breath hold it give you a hose to put in your mouth then tell you to blow out and keep blowing. Did you do that test? Did they give you a nebulizer with inhaled medication to help you breath also? What other kind of meds did they give you besides the inhalers? Did they give you steroids? I am not trying to be a jerk to you in anyway I am only concerned because I know what it is like not being able to breath and all that comes with it. it is very scary when you cant breath. I am concerned for you and wonder if you are alright. Sinus can cause problems for anyone. When do you see your Doctor again? Are you on matience medicine now? Please keep us informed.

i had all the tests done the doctor i seen was my primairly doctor she sent for the tests my guess the lung doctor prescibe the meidcations spray recuse inhaler and 2 power inhalers. the power ones formoterol-fumarate,mometaasone-furoate only mke me fel worst so i stop taken them just using the spray ipratroplum albutrol.not being able to breat ia scary, once i get the mucus out and use the spray i much better with a sinus drip do no help with the mucus. this might sound odd i know this is wrong to do but the only way i can get the mucus out quickly is take a drag of cigarette. what made matter worst s day i was imform about the copd i was imform i had pad i limited to almost no excerise too help with the copd. i see the doctor at the end of the month i have a hold page for of questions thank you for ur reply.

No problem I just was worried about you. I know how COPD can get and I just wondered how you were doing with that. Do you have inhaled steroids too? They dont help you right now, but they do in the long run,. They keep your tubes of your lungs open, You have to keep using them everyday to get the benefit of them. They are not an emergency inhaler. Not by any means. But they are a matience medicine to help keep you from having difficulty breathing. I am glad you have a note pad with questions to ask your Doctor. Ask your Doctor about an emgerency plan for when you have an attack too. That can be very helpful. I know my peak flow numbers and as you know you can tell when you are in trouble and need to go to the hospital. But with the peak flow you tell when you starting to nose dive and need to call your doctor. So ask about the Peak Flow Meter and your numbers too. I am as bad as you too. I have to have a cigarette now and then too. Yes I guess we both need out asses busted but I didnt kill no one mother or whatever and I still enjoy a cigarette. God forgive me. And yes I still want to BREATHE. Doesnt make me a bad person. I have sinus all the time. Especially after I do a nebulizer. It does help clear my sinus up. I do take sinus meds too. Exercise isnt too good for me either. I get out of breath real easy. I have been disabled because of it. I sure enjoy talking to someone else with COPD> knowing that I am not alone in this journey. Thank you for sharing with me. I look forward to hearing from you . Take care

I have had COPD for 15 yrs, on Oxygen 24/7 for 10yrs, I have the best pulmonoglist in the world and she takes very good care of me, please DO NOT SMOKE,I use to smoke and beleive me I know what you are going through. I have found that drinking water really helps me get the mucus up. Take large gulps of water and it will loosen up the mucus makeing it much easier to cough up.

Hi bgri,

When you made this last dr. appt, was it to evaluate your COPD or to check out the sinus trouble? It drives me crazy when dr's blame each and every symptom on the chronic illness. Here's a news flash for them...chronically ill people can actually get sick with things that aren't related to their primary diagnosis! Shocking, huh? You could be having sinus trouble because you actually have something going on in your sinuses, just like all the other people in the world who have sinus trouble. If you haven't seen an ENT about it, you may want to ask your doc for a referral to one. A pulmonary dr. takes care of lower respiratory conditions while an ENT can tell you more about your sinuses. Since allergy meds aren't doing much, you may have some sort of infection. Plus, people who are on oral or inhaled steroids are at a higher risk of developing bacterial and/or fungal overgrowth in the mouth and throat. Maybe the same goes with sinus infections too? I don't know for sure but it would certainly make sense. Are you on home O2? Nasal cannulas are really drying, even when you have a humidifier on the concentrator. Not only does the dryness result in thicker secretions, but your body might also try to kick the mucus production into high gear if the dryness leads to inflammation, fragile membranes, and bleeding.

For my own sinus issues, I've discovered that mucinex works a whole lot better than oral allergy meds or saline nasal spray. Plain Mucinex (not DM) thins secretions and makes them easier to get rid of by coughing or nose blowing. A water-soluble nasal "saline gel" like Ayr helps a lot too, and is safe to use with O2 because it doesn't have any petroleum in it. Hope this helps!

know what u mean about doctors they just can't related. one problem cause all ur problems. finally she prescribe some tussin dm 10 same thing as mucniex which is gulfensen (genric) with a cough suppression and much cheaper. it only make my mucus thinner and easier to come up. is not solveing the prom of he sinus drip. i am only on a inhaler abutorol/iratopual( think how u spell it) it resucer inhaler. i was on 2 dried inhaler but only made me felt wrost was told to stop using them. still the only way to get te mucus out is a drag on a cigarette. i had sinustitis for over 15 yrs from my former job working in dusty warehouse. doc just snug that off. mucus in my long mucus in my throat nothing taste righ justt going crazy lol

I do understand what you're saying about the cigarette, It does seem to help with drainage, for the moment. I didn't know it at the time, but it made the whole sinus/allergy thing worse.
I have COPD & I have suffered from chronic & severe allergies & sinus troubles...hummm, let's see....For!Friggin!Ever!!! 'Cept for the last 3 years (or is it 4yrs now)!
I use to take all of the meds...all of the time...everything I could get my hands on. When the 4/6/12/24 hours was up...I was there with the next dose in hand waiting. I used every sinus/allergy med, every nasal spray there was. I use to take allergy shots. At my best, I took Claritin-D, Zyrtec-D (Allegra-D did nothing for me) & at the same time I took Mucinex-DM & Benedryl & used nasal sprays (script & OTC). The best spray I found & used religiously was Olive Leaf Nasal Spray (Seagate). All the while, I was miserable, felt & sounded terrible, eyes itching/watering, always coughing/choking on drainage/phlegm. I KNOW THE MISERY!
What changed? My neighbor went to see a new ENT/Allergy Specialist in Charlottesville at UVA (he had horrible sinus/allergies too). A month later, my neighbor had 'total relief' & shared his doctors advice with me. I laughed! I said, there is no way I can do that. I openly admit that I am totally stubborn. I saw/heard with my own eyes/ears that he had total relief. Soooo... finally, I decided to give it a try too. Drastic as it seemed...I did it, and Praise God! It worked for me too! I am sooooo grateful! I haven't taken another sinus/allergy pill, nor used a nasal spray in over 3 years...No mucinex either! and I only use Benedryl to help with itchiness/wasp stings :) I swear! I don't take ANY of that stuff anymore, neither does he. What we do do is sinus rinse. No, I don't own stock in the company lol
The advice from his doctor was to stop taking ALL of the medicines...ALL OF THEM, for 3 weeks; do a sinus rinse twice a day (morn & nite), everyday, with a seasalt pkg (comes with it) in each bottle; & not to use the nasal sprays either (saline type is ok, if needed).
Everyone I've ever shared this advice with has had the same results. I use the Neilmed bottle instead of the Nettipot (can't tilt my head for the Nettipot, due to autoimmune dizziness, even though that's totally better too!!!). After feeling better (about 4 months) I started skipping the sinus rinse. Now, I only do it when the pollens are bad, or someone mows their lawn & I'm outside, or I go to a ballgame/festival/fair where there's lots of dust or simply if I'm feeling dry/plugged up. I'll never be free of the sinus/allergy problems, but I am free from all that friggin medicine :) & the expense (that alone was worth it). If you try it, do it with determination. It works! Follow exactly what this doctor said to do, you will have total relief from all that sinus/mucus/drainage crab too! Then...pay it forward :)
ps...I finally quit smoking 2 years ago YAY ME!!!
