Three years ago, on Oct. 10, 2005, we started this journey with NSCLC Stage IV. Three years was longer than we expected, after hearing the statistics, but we are grateful for every day. I have been fortunate enough to be one of the patients who benefited dramatically from Tarceva, so until last winter my tumors have been stable and I've lived a normal life.
The problem with cancer is that you have to keep your eye on it. Since June, I've been dealing with metastases to my brain, which were attacked using Whole Brain Radiation, and more recently, there have been other indications that my tumors are growing, so I'm getting chemo (Alimta) every three weeks instead of Tarceva.
But I'm still calling myself a survivor - and as long as I can keep enjoying things, I'll be a survivor!
