I read a comment somewhere on this board referring to something like "chemo head" or something... I'm wondering if chemo drugs can affect memory or cause confusion. Anybody have any opinions on this?
My Mom has been sitting home, pretty much immobile except when she has doctors' appointments because she now has a walker and an oxygen line to drag around. She hates it and spends most of the time in her recliner. She even sleeps in it. She has a lot of pain in her right shoulder, shoulderblade, hip and thigh, which makes it hard to walk.
This from a woman who was working up 'til the end of August when this all started. The walker/oxygen started when she came home from the VATS surgery on 10/4 and instead of getting steadier on her feet, she seems to be getting worse with the walking and muscle pain. She also has been confusing a few things - not a lot, but some things. Like today - she asked me when she had to get ready to go to the doctor when she doesn't have another apointment for almost two weeks. I hated to tell her she wasn't going to the doctor today. Yikes!
So I guess I have two questions - can the chemo make you confused? And, is the muscle pain/weakness normal? The nurses seem to think it's from the chemo but the physical therapist seems to think otherwise and wants me to push her to do more exercise, which she hates. And I hate being put in the position of being the bad guy who nags her about everything - eating, walking, exercising, etc.
Any advice? Any similar experiences out there? Will the confusion go away when the chemo does? Please, I need some encouragement here. lol. Thanks.
Cris.
