Young with Cancer

As I was cruising the discussions and subscribers on this site, I noticed alot of very young (in your 20's) subscribers.

It saddens me that your on here even though I know young children have the "c" word also.

I was wondering if you young 20 year olds would mind sharing their story with me. I fully understand if you don't want to. Really curious but don't hold back, with the ones near/around the Dallas/Ft Worth area.

I'm not in my 20s, but am 34. I would love to hear young people's stories too. I have a suspicion that many of the young people on here (at least on the LC board - I haven't been on others) are family members who may be availing themselves of the information provided by the internet that older family members (with cancer) might not feel as comfortable doing (that's the case with me).

I do also know that there is a shocking number of young people affected directly by this disease.

Dee, how are you doing? What is the latest with respect to your diagnosis and treatment? I am rooting for you.

I'm going to guess that 97% of these 20 some year olds are caregivers (son's daughter's, grandson's, granddaughters, etc.) or students.

However I have seen over the years a 19 year old, 24, year old, 25 year old, 26 years old having lung cancer. The 19 year old I know, he is now 51 years old (SMILE) and doing just fine today and remains cancer free.

I do know of a handful of young survivors on this site. I'm sure they will show up and share their stories.

Cathy is 34 and surviving stage 4 lung cancer!
Diagnosed 2 months ago and living each day to the fullest! My gal has always been a non smoker and in excellent health....not even a single cavity in her sweet head. We will continue to fight this beast and have put ourselves in Gods arms!

Love to you!

Bill & Cathy

you always make my day!!!!!

I also wish to share with all of you that one of my inperson lung cancer support group members was 26 when she was dx.d with Mesothelioma LC. She's 34 years old today and continues to be cancer free.

She had her left lung removed along with 17 lymph nodes, & dehaphram(spel) and was unable to do any chemo or radiation. But, my point is, she's still here and still NED!!

We learn to NEVER SAY NEVER on this journey. All things are possible and this disease can be beat!!

Bless us all.
Hugs,
Connie

hopefuldaughter - Did you read that the doctor told me its completely treatable??? I was dreading to ask that awful question and I didn't have to..He answered it for me.

I am in chemo with radio. starting Monday. Chemo is no big deal.

My major problem now is paying my Cobra and paying the hospital so I can keep getting treatment. All other bills are beans. But the beans have been real nice about it and so has the hospital. Having an estate sale next Sat. so I can pay for next month's Cobra. Thank God I have a mother with a house that will be mine one day so me and my son have a place to live.

You go Cathy!! I love hearing stories like that. Makes me feel that much better as it does you!!! ((Hugs))..dee

Connie - Your Da_n right!!!! ((hugs to Ned and yourself))...dee

I was diagnosed 4 days after my 35th birthday with Stage IIIB adenocarcinoma (inoperable). I am a 3 1/2 year survivor and cancer free and pray to stay that way!!
