Hi , I have a pellet burning stove. It is a closed system so you aren't exposed to any gases just heat. I love it. I think as long as the stove is ventilated properly you should be alright. Just amke sure you add as much humidity to the air as possible because the heat will tend to dry out the house and you. Stay warm, John

I know that wood-burning fireplaces are problematic, known to release air-borne carcinogens, even with a good draw up the flue.

I do.....and as long as you get a rip-roaring start, there's no problem. We've all had incidences though where your kindling is gone and the stupid thing starts to just smolder and smoke starts leaking out the vent and the smoke alarms go off....BAD!!! If/when that happens, if possible get out of the house and let someone else stoke it up. I don't believe that there's anything harmful with a good fire and just opening the door to add wood doesn't let noxious stuff come pouring out at you! It still keeps venting up the chimney. And you aren't standing up on the roof inhaling it! The first year was rough just having the energy to keep it going while going through chemo.....but the luscious warmth was worth it.

We have a wood stove. My hubby ask my lung doc and my surgeon and my onc. about it and they all said to continue to do as we have. That there is only 1 posion in that which is carbon monoxide. and that is in any thing that burns. wood stoves do not cause lung cancer.

thanks all for your replies ,feel better now .Iwas a bit worried thinking it may be bad for me ,wood stoves are so cosy and cheap to run ,will continue to enjoy now the weather is turning cold xxxxxxxxxx

Be careful if you are on oxygen
