Starting treatment tommorow with Paclitaxel and Carboplatin Three week cycle dont have any Idea what will happen
My mom has had 4 rounds in 3 week cycles, each 5 hours long....she experienced NO nausea...she was very tired and had some joint pain on the 3rd or 4th day...by day 6 or 7 she was probably the most tired and then by day 8, the joint pain went away and she was starting to feel better...Hang in there...you CAN do this!

I received Taxotere and carboplatin every 3 weeks for 4 treatments. I had some nausea but phenergan helped that. I can't take benadryl for nausea which is sometimes given with the treatments.
I had fatigue and joint pains which was worst about the 3rd day. But it wasn't unbearable. By the third week, I was feeling good and ready for another treatment ;).
Best wishes - keep us posted on how you're doing.

I received four rounds of the same combination. One every three weeks, while I had some of the side effects I didn't have all. The main problem from me was being tired, pain in my joints and muscles on about the second day and lasting a short time.
There are things you can have at home just in case: anti-nausea, diarrhea and constipation med., I needed all at one time or another. Check with your oncologist nurse, sometimes their recommended dosage differs from the manufactures.
I kept lot's of bottled water and items I might regularly use in a basket near me, it made things easier for me and family.
A simple natural product called Glutamine appears to help some patients decrease muscle and joint aching, I think it helped me. My oncologist recommended I take 10 grams of the powder mixed in a small amount of liquid three times a day beginning the day after Taxol or Taxotere. If your on an every three week schedule, take it for 4-7 days; 2-3 days for a weekly administration. It can be found in any health food store.
Before you receive your first infusion the Oncology nurses will go over exactly what will be given and in what order, starting with the premed drip given to help with possible nausea or
allergic reactions.
Wishing you all the very best and God bless,
Toddy
8/19 Did that. Got a rash wuth first round at elbows, left knee, ankles. After several misteps simple calodryl, i.e., that pink calomine lotion with benadryl from the drug store fixed it. Lost my hair just before the 2nd round, then eyelashes and all other body hair. Last round was in May. All hair has now returned. The hair on my head is almost 1/2 inch long now and thick. Got Biocalth calcium L-threonate for long bone ach that plaged me in entire third round as was reccommded by Dr. Blaylock in back of "Natural Stratagies For Cancer Patients, a book I highly recommend. It worked instantly. I was more subject to joint injuries so had a problem with left rotater cuff and what the podiatrist thought was plantar faititis of left heal. (podiatrist said to go forth and get New Balance on sale as all sports shoes are pretty much the same and to get Perfect Feet inserts as inserts are not the same. Chicks carries the inserts. I got the berry for the NB and the green one for other shoes. I still cannot do hardly any barefoot.) l also got some neuropothy in fingertips (that is gone). Neuropathy slight in left heel still. There was fatgue. Energy got better but not yet normal. Took Sofran as needed to avoid vomiting, especially the evening of chemo and or the morning following. Hope some of this helps. I do take a lot of supplements. My lowest white count was 2.7 and was early on. You want to do everything possible to keep up your blood counts.
I had 6 rounds of Taxotere and carboplatin with Avastin every 3 weeks. It really wasn't too bad. They always gave me Aloxi first for anti-nausea which worked great. The day of and day after I always felt great. Then for the next day or two I would just feel very tired with some body aches. After a few days that would go away and I'd feel great again until next chemo session. No nausea but some minor stomach problems that Imodium took care of. Lost tastebuds for a couple of days each time. The effects are cumulative, so after the last chemo session, I felt the worst, but it was still just the same side effects, just a little more severe, and lost tastebuds for a little longer period of time. Nothing intolerable. Good luck. I'm sure you'll do fine.
