Wearing the LCA logo pin

0 Recommendations

I am editing my post to explain that I didn't intend it to criticize any other symbol of Cancer or Lung Cancer support. Please, everyone, wear whatever makes you feel strong, that sends the message you want to send. All I wanted to say is that the LCA logo pin, with or without wristbands and ribbons, sends what I think is a special message, and there's no reason you can't wear it right beside your ribbon pin, or along with your clear or yellow wristband

Original post:

Recently, I decided that instead of wearing my old yellow bracelet, I would purchase and wear a logo Pin sold by LCA - the little guy with his hands on his hips and No More printed across his chest. Since I started wearing it, several people have asked about it and when I explained, it gave me the opportunity to share the facts and in one case, ask the friend to send emails to her Senators in support of the Lung Cancer Mortality Reduction Act (which she did!)

Everyone knows what the yellow bracelet means (sorry Lance), so they ignore it. The Pin is something new and unfamiliar and has given me a few opportunities to tell people about the deadliness of lung cancer, along with the terrible levels of funding and survival. Check the LCA online store page at http://www.lungcanceralliance.org/donate/emarket.htm

Really, I'm not a secret staff member of LCA - but I think this is one more little thing that will let us spread some much needed awareness to others.

Susan - I have worn my yellow bracelet since diagnosed in Sept. 2004. I have never taken it off nor has one of my daughters and some of my friends. I will not be able to take it off.

Susan & Sylvia I also was given a yellow braclet when I was diagnosed in March05, I will never take it off, its become my good luck charm but I'm not against wearing a pin, best wishs. Penny

Oops,

I really didn't mean to say that I have anything against anyone wearing the yellow armbands. My husband and I wore them since shortly after I was diagnosed in Oct. 2005.

My point was that the LCA logo, which is a silvery pin about 2 inches high, is unfamiliar, and may be noticed and better yet, asked about, because it is something different. My husband told me that people at work asked him about it and he needed more facts from me to answer their questions.

I absolutely don't think there is any problem with wearing both symbols - and Living Strong is a goal for every one of us.

Did I miss something? I thought the ribbon for lung cancer was clear.

Yes, it seems that other Lung Cancer Awareness organizations have their version of lung cancer ribbons, wristbands, pins and so forth. The National Lung Cancer Partnership, formerly known as Women Against Lung Cancer, has Swarovski crystal earrings and a bracelet, along with a clear wristband, and pewter and rhinestone ribbon shaped pins.

I had a clear wristband at one time, but it broke and the organization I got it from seems to have disappeared. I also have a blue oval Car magnet that says breatheDEEP but it was from the same organization.

Anyway, all I wanted to suggest is that since we all benefit from the support group at Lung Cancer Alliance, we might want to wear their logo too, especially because it is unique and therefore might invite questions and explanations.

Sorry for all the confusion.

I was given a white lung cancer pin from a survivor I met at a conference. It was small and I wore it with pride. My friend has since succumbed to this nasty disease but she is still a survivor in my mind. I now have pins that say "Cancer Sucks " and everyone who sees it me where I got it. I ususally hand them out to anyone who asks. This pin says it all for me and usually gets people talking. You can order in qty of 100 for $25.00 from www.canceradvogacy.org
Another great place for all kinds of pins, stickers magnet etc. is www.chosehope.com. My favorites are"Life is full of choices, choose hope "and "I didn't survive cancer to die of stress." Wear whatever works for you and get the message out. Marie
