Was so scared now a small sigh of relief

I was diagnosed the middle of August with nsclc. The stage was either 3A or 2B. Because the mass had infiltrated the pulmonary veins and gone into the carina after being put to sleep the thoracic surgeon could not operate on me at this time. "Mass has to shrink first" well my fear was what if it doesn't? I did wake up with a port for chemo.
I was ordered for 4 rounds every 21 days of Taxol/carboplatin.
Mass in August was 5.4x 3.0 cm
After ct scan last friday mass is 1.9x1.0cm
That's an amazing shrinkage in anybodys book.
I've had 2 rounds of chemo so far and see the ONC next tuesday Nov.3rd.
Thanks all for letting me share my news.
Like everyone else cancer is so new to all of us. I'm 57
and now a bald female. Oh well. Saves on shampoo and conditioner and now take shorter showers with no hair to fuss with!!!!

Way to go!

A big Thank You Pat,
My 2 grown children are extremely happy. My son is an M.D. but my no means a cancer expert jusy highly educated. He was so dissapointed when surgery could not be performed. His philosophy is cut the monster out but we had to go with the expert.(thoracic surgeon.)

Thank you major Mike.I have read several of your post through out my becoming a member. My son is an M.D. and he just signed with the Air Force effective December (in the reserves) he'll go in as a captain as a flight surgeon. I'm so proud of him and all he has accomplised. I am trying to get use to the tingling in fingers and toes and when i shower my feet even tingle. Best wishes to you.

That is great news! Wow that shrunk real good.
I think it is so wonderful you are going to have no bad hair days for a while. When your hair grows back, it will be richer and more beautiful than it was before. No more shaving the legs either or the pits! Loved that one.
God bless Sandy

Hi Sandy,
Yes, my chemo regime is kick ass but hey it's working. I know others on here go through worse. My hairbrushes were washed and put up. I now have a new wig brush.Only wear the wig on outings. It's just not me.No razors or nair for a while.
I'm so scared for surgery later; i've read a lot on here the hardships that cause and the awful pain.Originally when i was put to sleep the surgeon said if need be he would remove entire right lung.Hopefully i can now just have a resection. My mass is lower right lung. Maybe ONC tuesday can give me an update since my scan but she's not the surgeon.

This is good news! Hang in there!

Wonderful news! That degree of shrinkage has to set some records. More miracles are in store for you!

Best wishes,
Sheila

Great news!! And I know what you mean about the shampoo. Just two pea sized dollops and thats all it takes. Love and hate having no hair.

Barb

Wishing you the best of luck, my husband had a resection, and had no problem at all, he took his Percocet pills and sat on the couch a few days, but was up and walking too, he even made his own soup and things to stay active, so you will do alright. i know you are afraid and I would be too, think of it as a cure for you though. Take care, many prayers for you my friend.
Sandy

Dear Northgeorgia: "Bald is beautiful!" Hair is vastly over-rated. Your are right - look at all the money you are saving!

The wigs were too itchy - I amassed quite a nice collection of baseball hats - which I still love.

Your news is fabulous! I've got my tap shoes out. Feet do your stuff! It's Happy Dance Time!

Blessings!
Brooklynda

Sandy,I noticed in one of your post about you going to play bingo. When i come out of my chemo fog /sickness before the next round i've been leaving georgia and going to mississippi to the casinos. You go play bingo or hang out in a casino.Just always remember there is no cancer in a bingo hall or casino!!!! Just fun times.

So glad to hear your great news keep on kicking cancers butt and let the fun times roll.
Lucy

It is time to play and kick back.I had old fashioned surgery and even with set backs I am back to work.It isn't a picnic but it beats the alternatives,I think.I am planning a happy dance today.Your post shows a good sense of humor which helps get through all this so I bestow upon you the title of The Incredible Shrinking Woman.Maybe they won't have anything to take out,Prayers AndiB

Way to go, keep kicking the big-C butt., I'm stage 3b and will fight to the bitter end.

Excellent, keep up the good fight against the beast, you can beat it. Good luck and take care, JC
