Had a full left lung removal in dec 07.all was clear until recently. i now unfortunatley had brain tumour removed welll luckily really, they could operate.I was in the last part of my pregnancy and was gettting severe headaches, i then just started being sick and couldnt keep anything down.my partner took me to the labour ward and the follwing day they took an mri that showed a tumour.I was transferred to a different hospital where the next day i had a beautifull daughter by c-section,then a few days later a brain tumour removed......i am now at home recovering but they want to do wbrt i am a bit worried about this as have allready had chemo.can anyone tell me what to expect? i decided against wbr i just wanted to be at home with baby, and had read so much stories and it was a big decision to not have it.

Congradulations on your baby. I am going to have my lower left lung removed. Can you tell me what to expect PLEASE

Dear Lassy,
Congratulations on your new baby!
You have been through so much, but you have been blessed with many incredible gifts. I am so happy your brain tumor has been removed, and I think your decision to forego WBR is a wise one. The side effects are significant, as is the risk down the road.

My husband had Gamma Knife surgery successfully, and the surgeon said they would do the same for future tumors, so if you can avoid the whole brain, that is great.

I wish you and your family all happiness, and perfect health for you and you baby. Enjoy everything!
Peg

Hi there, well i had a full left lung removed and it wasnt as bad as what i thought.i was in hospital about 10 days, was on morphine for a while though, had pain for a number of weeks but was managable.after a few months you wouldnt of thought i only had one lung as was going about normal activities.i should imagine that it would be similair for you but everyione is diffrent, good luck.what is your diagnosis.well take care, let me know how you get on

I've opted not to have wbr as well. I had a tumor removed as in cut out -- but it was near the surface. I'm not sure it was the best choice but so far so good.

The neurosurgeon said the follow-up xray looked "funky" where the outline from the surgery was too thick. I see him again 11/2 after another MRI. He wants to do spot xray. Two radiation oncologists said they were sure it was just post-surgery scars. The one said he wouldn't refuse but he wouldn't do spot, he'd get the whole cerrebelum. I would refuse that. My oncologist wants me to cancel the next mri and follow-up but I'm going for it; I still don't think right and to me that's a symptom.

Both my oncologist and the neurosurgeon say "I don't blame you" when I say no WBR. It's probably the only thing they agree on.

did the surgeon tell you he felt confident on getting clean margins? why would wbr be recomended if they got it all? is this just as a precautionary measure?

Congratulations on your little girl, what did you name her? There is one other lady here that is pregnant, I think she said with her 4th child and was dx with LC. Can't remember which or her name, sorry. I will try to find out. On the WBR, they do this in case there are any stray cells hanging around, did they mention PCI?
I think that's less invasive and not at bad in the long run. Think about it for awhile, you don't have to decide immediately. If it shows up again, you would have to do something anyway. Also I understand with WBR, they wouldn't be able to do anymore if it shows up in the brain again. I could be wrong, but these are all things to find out and consider. Good luck and take care, JC

I was way off. She has 10 now and expecting #11 3/2010. Her screen name here is Momof11. Last post I saw, she was going to try alternative due to being pregnant. Take care, JC

Hi tiff I am assuming they wanted to do is as a precatuion, the surgoen told me they got it all, wbrt doestnt sound good from what i have read especially in young people(im only just turned 36).Hopefully i just got to pray its not gonna come back, but stuff i have read is like when it has spread to your brain its not a good outlook.

Hi thanks for the message, the oncology who i seen agrreed with me too when i said i dont want the wbrt as it isnt going to make much difference whether i ahve it or not i got myself all stressed up working out a decion for them to agree, ohh well i am aware that if it was to return id have to have something then, but i had been through enough at that point and just wanted to be with my family,i havent had follow up appointment yet with the neurosurgeon thats in a few weeks so i shall be asking questions. What is pci?
i cant seem to find the pther woman who is pregnant wow 11th one...what was your prognosis

Congratulations on your baby and many blessings for her.I support your decision to not have WBR at this time.It is not bad havimg a new life to try to keep memories intact and avoid some potential problems.Your baby like all will learn fast and quality time with her mom sounds like a plan.Prayers that you grow very old with her.AndiB

Congrats on your baby, but sorry about all the other crap. Anyhow, not sure the long term effects of WBR, can they do the gamma knife on those funky areas?
Prayers,
Tina
