This is a bit personal but I need advice

My husband was diagnosed with limited small cell lung cancer in June 2005, it's been a difficult journey but so far he has had 6 clear scans and is slowly recovering from the physical and emotional trauma of it all. So what is my question you may ask? Are there any ladies out there who have any advice regarding sex-after-lung-cancer (and before you say anything, I am exceedingly grateful that I am having this problem at all!!!). Our love life has returned after a very long time but now the love is great but after every time I get cystitis. I am assuming that it is something to do with the change in my lovely hubby's chemical make up but don't really know and would therefore welcome any ideas.
love from one puzzled but happy wife!

From looking on the Internet it sounds like this could be coincidental but:
"Infectious cystitis can develop since cancer patients [and perhaps recently cured cancer partients?] are immunocompromised."
http://www.uptodate.com/patients/content/topic.do?topicKey=genl_onc/7757

"Effects on Family of Cystitis
Most infections of the urinary tract are not contagious. However, it is wise to avoid intercourse until the course of antibiotics has been completed."
http://www.surgerydoor.co.uk/medical_conditions/Indices/C/cystitis.htm

omg - how awful for you!
however - woo hoo for both of you making it 3-1/2 years on this journey!!!
you might want to talk to his onc about this

Can I ask how long it took for your husband get back to his normal self regarding sex? In general, do most men have trouble post treatment with erectile dysfunction and sex drive/desire?

This doesn't deal with the subject but I'm happy for your husband's good reports. I have limited small cell and am almost finished with my first line of treatments. I hope I do as well and I hope you both solve this problem so you can enjoy yourselves!

hello there,
it may be personal but If you dont ask then you don't get answers and everyone is here to help and there is and answer some where for you and your hubby .....
Good luck to you and your hubby
Stay strong

since it has been awhile, maybe you are subject to more trauma from intercourse. Try urinating before and after sex. Drink lots of water to assist in cleaning out the urethra after intercourse. Are you experiencing any dryness? A lubricant may help. I am not sure if anything changes in the male's makeup to cause more irritation.

Hi! We had this prob. My husband is European and not circumsized. The man takes 2 showers a day.. but still bacteria builds up. I ahve always gotten an infection from him.(urinary tract) Whenever we don't make love for a period of time, I don't get an infection.. so..
anyway yes, we also passed it back & forth. He has to be treated well. Now he just washes with some of my fem wash and it seems to help a lot!!

It is not a bad idea to use condoms during and after chemo. That way both of you are protected from infections even though pregnancy may not be an issue.
