Pam,
Sad to say I am still second guessing if more couldve been done for my dad, and he is gone since 1/21. Your update brings me right back to my mom & dad's house while dad was under the care of hospice. God gives us the strength, exactly when we need it and not a minute before. I know what you are going through and will keep you in my prayers. As long as you can keep dad comfortable, life is good!

were at about 3 weeks now with my dad in hospice. and the last 5 days have been round the clock nursing care. dad also seems to see things we cant, and often doesnt make sense when he talks. he is very weak and only eats a few bites a day. i hate this suffering...this is no life...especially for my father. he is also bed ridden now in a hospital bed in our living room, resulting from a few spills onto the floor and having to call 911 to help us get him up(hes 6'4, and although hes lost over 50 lbs, hes very heavy). he was diangosed with stage IV in 3/09 and given 8-10 months to live....its only been 3 months...guess coming on this site proves were not alone.....its just so hard. good luck to you and your dad....glad hes able to eat and get out of bed...enjoy it.....take care and god bless..

Mary,

WOW.

I was feeling very alone until I saw your post. I usually try to touch base and check out how everyone is doing. I had wanted to post, but just seemed to put it off every day. Seeing things in print makes it sooo real.

Ok, so this is where we are at:

This Saturday will be week four under hospice care at my house!!! Yea....we have survived and thrived so far. Things were very rough for the first few weeks but now that we have lived through a few rough nights and everyone is now in a flex routine -things are as close to perfect as they can be. I am doing things I never thought I could, and every day is a journey -and although there are several tear filled hours there are many more wonderful days.

Dad is pretty much bed-ridden and sleeps most of the time, but we do get him up in the wheelchair when he is rested. His legs are nothing but skin and bones, and he is very weak now. It is very hard to see anyone waste away, but seeing my dad go thru this is even harder.

His appetite is great still, and he has not had ANY pain until this morning. He is not taking pain meds except for small dose of morphine at bedtime for restlessness from steroids. Hopefully the pain will stay away for awhile.

The last week he has started to become to become more confused and is "seeing" things we do not see. He has also had the "seeing the light" dreams and one night carried on a two hour conversation with someone whom we could not see. I read the book final gifts several months ago and again last week. It has helped me to understand what is going on and how to word my responses in a way that helps him.

I knew once I started, I wouldn't be able to stop!!!

Hospice is wonderful to us all, but I still wonder if we did everything that we could for him. That darn second guessing thing.

Thank you all, and I will keep you posted on our journey. I will also keep you all in my prayers.

Pam

I haven't seen any recent posts from her either. Hope she's doing as well as can be expected.
