Thankyou for giving me hope

1 Recommendation

Hi,
I just wanted to say that i found out a month ago that my mother has lung cancer. I searched the net, like many, for any information to be found, and cried for days (weeks!) as everything is so negative. Then my friend pointed out to me 'well the people that survived aren't on the internet looking for support anymore, they're out living their lives!' .. so i REALLY appreciate coming across a site that can bring hope and positivity to others. I thank everyone who has posted positive stories. I don't think I'm putting my head in the sand, but i'm not reading anything sad or negative on here, as I don't see how that can help me at this point. Your posts have made me feel so much better - i've sent my friend the link in case i forget about it, and she has to send it back to me to give me hope again.
I think you're all amazing, and I hope and pray that my Mum has similar outcomes to you all.

Hi Mon, I'm an 9 yr survivor and please remember that it is possible and becoming the norm for people to survive this disease. we are on here to show and give support to who ever needs it anytime.
If you get up to it and want to share a little more about your Mom. there is someone here who has already been where you and her have been.
That's an ivitation that you have and your Mom if she wants to chat or ask a question. have a good day- John

Thanks Pat and John - it is so amazing that there are people out there that can talk in this forum and comfort each other. We're at the phase now of waiting for the biopsy and PET results... they say it is worse not knowing - but i almost just don't even want to know the results!! but then the fight begins i suppose.
So there is not much to tell on her yet other than she appears to have a 5cm tumour on her upper right lobe, and she has started doing yoga and trying meditation, and doing the 'what to eat for cancer' diet. it can't hurt right!?
To make matters worse, my Nanna - her Mum - has been diagnosed with liver cancer - the week after Mum found the tumout on her CT scan! My aunt just has surgery for bowel cancer - hopefully things come in groups of threes and this is the end of it!

Dear Mon, You are what we affectionately refer to as a caregiver. Welcome to our club, giving care and emotional support to someone so dear to us. I see you haven't posted in a while which probably means you're dealing with much more important matters. Some advise for you if you don't mind. Find a caregiver support group. You need to talk to people who can totally understand what you're thinking and feeling. They can also give you great advise on navigating the medical system. Next, do something for yourself from time to time, you need some pleasure in your life. Also, FORGET about statistics. They don't mean anything. Cancer is an individual experience not a group experience and miracles happen everyday. A positive attitude is essential.
All the best to your Mum and you. From a fellow caregiver.
