Taxotere and fever

0 Recommendations

Hello there, well, after finally getting my husband on his feet after 10 days of fever,we're back to square 1.He had his 2nd session of Taxotere last Tuesday. He had an unpleasant episode (weakness, extreme perspiration) during the infusion but then recovered only to come down with a fever last night. The onc gave him the neulasta shot the morning after chemo to prevent this but to no avail. My husband is thinking of giving up and I can't blame him, this is no quality of life.He has already said that if his next scan(December 10th,already booked) is bad news then he won't go through anymore chemo but will let himself die.SO sad.

So sorry to hear your husband is not feeling well. This is all part of the tx. He should continue on the tx unless his doctor tells him it's not working. Because it could be working right now and he won't know until the scan. It's not an easy road and you have to want to fight the beast. Look up the side effects and if they are what he is experiencing, then he should stop. The tx can actually be worse than the disease. I pray that things work out for him and you. Take care, JC

Hi,
This may come as some good news to you, not sure but I had fevers of unknown origin for all the time I was on Taxol and Gemzar too. I beleive, this is only my own belief,. but I really think this is an excellent sign. I asked my oncologist, and pulmonary specialist about these fevers, nobody knew why I got them, I had nothing brewing that anyone cared to look in too. So anyway Idecided what it is, is a person whom gets cancer all of a sudden the immune system just stops working, this is a known fact, and it can be read in many places about cancer. Also if a fever starts up what does this tell me, it tells me my immune system is again working and making all of those little white blood cells to fight infection. What infection? The cancer, they are invaders in our bodies,. My oncologist told me he didn't know why I had these fevers, that they do see them in some people, not many though,. but I also was told by him, that cancer is an imflammatory response. This was his only answer to me. So I choose to beleive I was lucky, had my fevers for the good! it meant my immune system was up and working as it shjould be once again. I have survived this lung cancer now 3 years and 9 months, I was given a death sentence of 12 to 15 months. The fevers helped me. I am sure of it.
God bless Sandy

Neulasta boosts your white blood cells, and possibly causing a fever. I have to agree with Sandy. It's my opinion when you are running a fever,(over 101) your immune system is working.

Good Luck and God Bless,
Marylou

Dear desperate housewife, it is so difficult to be in that position. On the one hand, we do not want to see our loved one to continue to suffer with terrible side effects, but on the other hand, we do not want to see him give up either. Maybe you can sit down with your husband's doctors and see if they can give your husband treatments that will still have some chance to work, but won't make him so sick. For example, Tarceva is just a pill. Its not a liquid chemotherapy. Just like this, there may be other treatments that may be tried that hopefully may help him and not make him so sick. That way he would not have to give up. Hope for the best for both of you.

He's already been on Tarceva and it did nothing at all for him. He's currently on his 4th line and the onc said that after this he has one more therapy to try.

hi guys,
I agree taxotere is really tough, I had 6 rounds and it has done an amazing job on the tumors. the side effects are horrendous but if you can try to put up with them you will hopefully reap the benefits. There are much worse chemo regimens out there, I have had 6 different lines and taxotere was one of the worse but the most effective so hang in there with it. I had to as I can't leave my beautiful wife behind yet, she is much too precious.
God Bless and take care guys

I had my first Taxotere treatment yesterday as my fourth line. I've read the manufacture said about Tx, what side effects did you get. The oncologist nurse said this was easy to tolerate.
