Tarceva and Side Effects

0 Recommendations

I'm on here in support of my aunt with metastatic NSCLC - just got word last week her brain is clear but metastases in her adrenal gland and lymph nodes around the lung...small spots still on the lung. I think they are putting her on Tarceva. Anyone else on it? How are the side effects?

Tarceva side effects vary by individual but most people tolerate Tarceva quite easily. Most talked about side effects are : Diahhrea, The Flaming Rash, Fatigue and Nausua.

I've been on Tarceva for 5 months and have a mild rash which is controlled by Clindamycin Lotion and Gel. Sometimes I get a bit of fatigue but not often - more importantly, Tarceva has been working for me and a lot of people.

Best wishes....

I forgot to ask. Is Tarceva your Aunt's first line of treatment? If you will refer to the "Find It" window on the upper right portion of this page, simply type in Tarceva Effectiveness and Side Effects and you will find hundreds of posts about Tarceva.

Thanks, gjb. She was diagnosed last year after coughing and spitting up blood. She had surgery and chemo, which hit her pretty hard. She just was diagnosed with the recurrence and metastasis last week and we believe they are going to do radiation and Tarceva. I have yet to find out all the details, as they (and we) are still reeling from the recurrence and she isn't talking very much about it yet. I'm trying to get a feel for what her treatment will entail this time around so I can gauge how to support her and the whole family.

I've seen another thread on the side effects which looked really nasty. I'm glad to hear it doesn't hit everyone that hard. I will pass it on to her daughter, my cousin and a new nurse. :)

Much obliged and God bless you as you continue the good fight.

I am 77 and have been taking Tarceva for 18 months. My side effects have been dry skin, and occasional diarrhea. I have fatigue and loss of appetite. Also, Tarceva nails, my large toenails got layers (for lack of a better description) I just noticed that my eyelashes have started to thin. Oh, and short of breath, as if surgery, chemo and radiation wasn't enough.
However, I have been to Alaska, Hawaii and several cruises since taking the drug. I got a wheelchair which my grandchildren are happy to push to save my energy. I have CT scans every three months and the cancer seems to stay in remission.
