Swimming and jacuzzi??? How soon after VATS?

0 Recommendations

Just a quick question: How soon after VATS lobectomy could I go in my warmed up jacuzzi, not hot, or my own heated pool? (Not public, hot, or germy. LOL) :-) Thanks! It's been 7 weeks, and I need to MOVE. (Still in pain)

Seems to me 7 weeks is long enough to wait! Usually you are allowed to shower 24-48 hours after surgery, and bathing after one or 2 weeks. Unless you have still got open wounds ( your scars are all healed now aren't they?) there should be no problem. In fact , I bet that it will do you a lot of good , that heat will really help with the soreness. If you still have any doubts, call the surgeon Monday morning and ASK!
I am so jealous because I have neither a pool or a jacuzzi...but a hot bath really does a body good!

Thanks for the speedy reply! I emailed my surgeon who said, "Go ahead." :-) Too chilly today with June gloom but tomorrow is supposed to be nice, so one more pleasure in life restored!

If your incision is completely healed over, but if you are on any chemo treatments and there is any chance of infection, I would stay away from any hot tubs, in case of any contamination in the water, not for the surgical wound if it has healed but from what you could breathe in, I would ask your doctor before any hot tubs if they are public hot tubs and not your own private one. God bless Sandy

It's ours, and it will just be warm, not hot. It's part of our pool, so I think it will be ok. I just want to get in and kick my legs and not feel like one giant atrophy. :-) But thank you for the advice about breathing in contaminants/chlorine. Good to remember!!! Hugs, n

Oh, and chemo was months ago for breast cancer.... (unrelated cancers)

Good for You!

It sounds wonderful! Gloomy June, boy do we know about that. My husband got the ok to go to a club where they have steam sauna, dry sauna and jacuzzi. Dr is very picky so I'm sure it's ok. He said "won't hurt, won't help". Will help the soul though and the muscles and like you said moving around. He is 8 months post op. Kathy

Kathy, thank you! Blessings and hugs! n

if your surgeon said "go ahead" then enjoy!
