stint to the head - has anyone heard of this?

0 Recommendations

Hello all,

My sister's sister-in-law had breast cancer about 4 to 5 years ago and it went into remission. Last year it came back in her lymps and she had chemo, radiation etc, month of remission then it came back in her liver and lungs more chemo. Now it's in her bones. She has been getting weaker and can't walk across the living room without help. Her eye is drooping. She is in the hospital and they told her she has no mets to the brain but she has fluid on the brain and spine also cancer is in her spine. They have told her she is terminal. They put a stint in the top of her head (forehead) so they could put chemo right into the brain.

Has anyone heard of this?

Thanks,

Jen

Sure haven't.I have had a couple of patients who had shunts that pulled excess fluid from their brains. As the brain has a theoretical blood/brain barrier that makes many drugs not effective in the brain,I think that some people have figured out if you can take it out you can put it in.Theoretically it should work.I pray it's effective. What wonders we are living to see and here about.Truly it is terrifying to deal with the diagnosis and what may happen. On the other hand,as I kind of already said we are on the cutting edge of science and where can you hang with more beautiful people than here on InSpire.Would I have chosen this road? No.AmI glad to be here to help encourage you and your sister in law and family ? I am just wish you all didn't need to know. Please keep us posted.I think this can be a vcery direct hit to the cancer.PrayersAndiB

Jen,
I have never heard of this either. Only know chemo normally does not cross the brain barrier.

Just wanted to let you know I am sending prayers out for your sister-in-law that the treatment they are doing will work for her.

Thank you!!! As weak as she was, she was wishing me luck - I am having chemo tomorrow.
