My mother who has extensive small cell with liver mets, diagnosed on February 5th, 2009, does not access the internet, therefore, I am research a few things for her.
If you do have info regarding my question, it would be welcomed.
I'm open to whatever may work in the fight against lung cancer, however, please make sure whatever your mom chooses to do, she runs it by her Onc Doc first. It's so important that her doctor's know what she is doing outside her standard treatments.
And just as an FYI, I know a lot of long term ESCLC Survivors over 5 years and more. One of my friends is a 10+ year SCLC and her's had spread to her liver too. She is doing just fine today and no she didn't do anything other then her standard treatments and she did watch what she ate. She did eat more fruits and veggies.

Hi Connie, Yes, i will tell her to ask her oncologist. My mom has always had a sweet tooth,so, no sugar is hard. You're right because we don't know how Stevia could possibly react with her chemo drugs,etc.
I am hoping that my Mom will contine having good results with her treatments and that her having quit smoking 20 years ago will be a plus in some way.
Your posts are wonderful, inspiring and so informative. You have given so many here hope and great advice as well. I love reading your posts and I think you are so cool!

Stevia is a natural sweetener that they sell at most natural foods stores. It is in a lot of sweetened drinks these days. I don't think it is any more dangerous than eating sugar cane although stevia has been known to have less effect on raising blood sugar levels. I don't think it's any different than eating a vegetable to be honest. It's not something like a powerful herb or plant. Here's a link. I don't have anything to add about the safety of stevia, and there does seem to be a lot of discussions on if it is safe or not, But I did by some, Truvia brand. It was a waste of money, in my opinion. I didn't like the taste at all, had a bitter taste. Just my opinion.

Hi Marg,, I know what you mean. I did try it a couple of years ago and it did taste a tiny bit funky. Maybe in baking or adding some to a big pitcher of fresh lemonade would be ok tasting. I will read some more info just sent by Blujonny on Stevia.

I think as far as something that tastes as close to sugar without the harmfulness of processed sugar is pure cane juice which can be bought at natural food stores. I have heard stevia recommended as the healthiest sweetener but as other people have said it may not have the best taste. Other sweeteners include agave nectar and brown rice syrup.
