Stage111A squamous cell recurrence after surgery

5 Recommendations

Had rt lung removed almost 4 years ago-No chemo or radiation. Cancer measured 7.7cm x7.7cm. So far no recurrence or spread at least as far as can be seen.
Would like to hear from those who have had similar
experience.

Hello Topper,

I had adenocarcinoma with bac features and had upper left lobe removed three years ago when I was 47 years old. 2.5 cm, stage 1a, no chemo or radiation. So far so good! Good to hear about your success story! Sharon

I have my left lung removed 12+ years ago. I had Adnenocarinoma stage IIIA-B. I was IIIA when I went into surgery I was IIIB when I came out. My tumor was 4.3 cm in size. My cancer had spread to the esophagus and three lymph nodes. I did have chemo and radiation. As you can see, I am still here 12+ years later. I am cancer free.

You're story inspired me. I hope my husband has a happily ever after just like you!

I love to hear inspiring stories like yours. You give encouragement to all of us newbies. May you continue to be blessed with good health.

It's great to hear good news...I had a lobectomy of rt lung just over a year ago...stage IIIA at age 47. I did have chemo & radiation because they found 2 positive nodes in the mediastinum (sp.?) I am very humbled by this experience. I hope I will be around to chat after 4 years. Stay Well!

Take Care,

Lynn

I had my entire right lung removed 4/24/07 for stage 3a adenocarcinoma and no chemo or radiation. It wnet into a node and pleura and pericardium but they were able to get it all and clear the margins. they therefore said that they feel it will "act like a stage 2 and gave me a 60% 5 year survival rate with no further treatment.

I am doing fine so far and no evidence of recurrence to date. I am of course worried about the annual scans coming up in June but am eternally grateful that I have done so well for this year. I walk 1.8 miles (with hills) everyday and can walk much farther on flat areas. I do about everything I used to do but not quite as rigorously.

I love to hear from survivors as this is so very depressing otherwise.

wow - all of these responses are so hopeful for us that are just starting to recover from the "treatment" - LisaDean my love - you rock -
D1 - You hang in there
as for me - well- I want to be on this site 12 years from now writing my success story too!!!!

Hey SB - where have you been?????????????

My stage was 3A. I had 6 weeks of concurrent radiation and chemo followed by an upper right lobectomy. I also had adjuvant chemo. My surgery was in July 2005, my scans have been clean since. I am very humbled and very grateful to God.

I had my right lung removed in March 07. Chemo and radiation. So far, soooooo good~
Looking to see those golden years myself.

I asked for thirty years, I was 44 when diagnosed.
My doctor said that is fine, but what happens when you turn 75?

Stay positive, Keep the faith.
Congrats on your success~ You are an inspiration to us all.

Thank you so much for the inspiring story!!! (especially with squamous cell) My dad is IIIA squamous also. He did have radiation and chemo before surgery. On May 2, 2008 he had right middle and lower lobes and surrounding lymph nodes removed. The biopsy came back no evidence of cancer. We are thankful to God and pray that in four years we will be writing such stories of hope for others to read. He is one year this May from his first symptoms, but it took them until October 2007 to actually diagnose him with cancer.

Hi, would like to hear back from you because we don't know of many who've had right lung removed, but when I responded to someone before on this site, did not get a response, so please respond directly to dbwilltop@aol.com. My husband had right lung removed in June '01 and is still here and doing well other than shortness of breath when much activity! Would be happy to share experiences including our almost certain "not making it", yet here he is cancer free so far.

Hi Topper, way to go! I was 41 when diagnosed almost 9 yrs ago. I was 3A going into surgery, came out 3B Had spread to lymph nodes in my chest. I had squamous cell too. They had me do chemo and radiation then surgery( had two lower lobes removed rt. lung). I'm still here thank God. I am really impressed with 12 yrs out. I hope you have many more. As for me I'm looking forward to 12 yrs. Yes still 9 yrs out and you still have that nagging feeling in the back of your mind,"Will it come back???" But today is today and you make the most of everyone after diagnosis! - John
