Stage IV NSCLC/Dementia

0 Recommendations

Hi!
My father has started chemo treatment for NSCLC. He has had 1 and 1/2 cycles of chemo. About a year ago he had symptoms of early dementia. Since he started the treatment he has had severe confusion, personality disorders, and problems word finding etc. Sometimes the effect lasts a few days, sometimes only a day. Pain medications can also set this off. Has anyone had any experiences like this and some idea as to causes?

Has he had a brain scan to rule out mets to the brain?

Yes, he had a brain scan to rule that out.

It might be "chemo fog" that is a documented side effect that many people on this site will attest to. Don has difficulty remembering things and finding the right words when he is on chemo (just started 4th round). He get really frustrated with tv sometimes, especially those shows that jump back and forth in timelines or with lots of characters. He gets better after chemo ends but from what I have read it can take up to a year to regain total function.
