Stage 4 breast cancer question

0 Recommendations

hello,

Im new to this website..and was relieved to find this site..

A good friend of mine has stage IV cancer and just found out yesterday that it is in her lungs.
she had a "window" placed in the lining of her heart 2 days ago to drain the fluid that keeps building up around her heart and now in her lungs.

The dr is having her do Chemo on Friday for 6 hrs straight.
It doesnt seem like very good news..
Im not sure how much more her body can handle, as it has been through SO much already.

Tring to prepare myself..but is Very difficult...
IS there a time frame that I should be tring to look at (end of life)??

Thank you so much...
sincerly...Susan

Hi Susan,

I suggest you re-post in the Inspire breast cancer group; although your dear friend has cancer in her lungs it isn't lunger cancer, it's actually breast cancer that has spread to the lungs. A different animal than what this lung cancer group is dealing with. Here's the link for that:
http://www.inspire.com/groups/breast-cancer/

And, you will also find alot of information/support on the Johns Hopkins breast cancer site which is run by Lillie Schockney, RN. Their link is:
http://www.hopkinsbreastcenter.org/services/ask_expert/index.asp?cat=19

I'll share two other thoughts (1) metastatic breast cancer has greater overall survivorship than lung cancer so your friend may continue to heal from her heart fluid surgery and benefit from her chemo to address her mets; and (2) cancer is so individual that no one knows when the cancer will overcome any one person's body. Does that make sense? We humans don't like uncertainty, it's hard on us so I can totally appreciate your desire to know & prepare. Keep the hope and take care of yourself as you care for your friend.
