Speaking of eats (juicing)

1 Recommendation

My ex bought me a juicer -- I asked but he went all out. This darn thing has NO RECIPES. I don't think I can get away with a quiet return. I've gotta impress someone, hopefully me -- enough to USE it.

Any leads/links to good recipes for juicing?

I know it is good for you ...... You Ex must really love you to go out and get you a juicer....so go for it. How are you doing? Hugs & Love, Julie xoxox

Hey, Granny,
You always make me smile. Welcome to my world - all green and every day starts with a juicer. Once the enemy, I have come to love and respect mine, (we now have 3) as they are keeping my darling husband alive. I discovered you can learn to love anything if needed. Or as my sister says: "If it would cure cancer. you would eat concrete."

So, I am really happy to answer any questions you have. For now, here is a good link which has a few sites to check out.

http://www.google.com/search?q=info+on+juicing+recipes&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq =t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

This one says it has free info for cancer patients, but I have not used it:

Anything else, just let me know and I will share the recipes I use, which are very green, with or without wheat grass (a different type of juicer called an extractor is used for this).

Juicing is a great source of easily digestible nutrients and energy, and is totally natural. We limit fruit, which is of course the fun stuff, but if you can have it a whole world of goodies opens up for you. Our world is more straight lifeline. The usual is with wheatgrass, cucumber, celery, kale, parsley, cilantro, and any other dark leafy veggie around.

So, happy juicing! What type juicer did your ex give you? And I think that was a lovely thing for him to do...
All the best of everything always to you!

Let me know granny, how you like it, i am reluctantly thinking of getting one too, i hate my veggies!! until I heard chocolate is a veggie, LOL.

Okay, here comes a Stupid question....but hey, I too am willing to eat bugs and dirt if it means keeping my husband healthy and alive!

I have been looking at Vitamixers....WoW! Pricey little gadgets! Still, going to get one.
CAn I juice with it, or do I need a "Juicer" too???
I have never even used a blender! lol Should be interesting!
I also, have NO recipes or any clue on what to make or how...

Holly

I have a Vitamix and don't use "recipes"... I simply put as many healthy veggies in there as I can and drink it...
1st thing in the morning for the liver, I usually drink:
spinach
romaine lettuce
parsley
kale
1 clove raw garlic
1 apple
1/2 lemon
small slice of ginger
some purified water

Then after that and after a little oatmeal, I move to:

more spinach
more ginger
more lemon
more kale
more romaine
cauliflower
broccoli
broccoli sprouts
white cabbage
red cabbage
chinese cabbage
celery
brussel sprouts
green beans
watermelon
papaya
sometimes a FEW dark grapes
purified water to mix

As I am making this for the vitamix, I am making a snack plate or a huge salad that includes all of the above PLUS some cucumber, raw yellow squash, raw green squash, onions, sometimes lentils, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, walnuts...and to the side 4 brazil nuts, macadamia nuts

Then while I am drinking the big vitamix drink, to help get the "taste" down, I will usually eat an orange... it helps cut the taste...

I am also busy steaming a large unpeeled carrot, butternut squash (with the seeds still in it lately - they contain laetrile - the same as in apple seeds and apricot seeds), green beans, brussel sprouts, alot of asparagus and shiitake mushrooms. I steam these for 7 minutes exactly and eat them dipped in oil throughout the day to increase absorbtion

I know this all sounds nasty but it's my veggie consumption (and some fruits, a little fish, my 5-6 cloves of RAW garlic, whey protein, turmeric, yoghurt, berries, etc.) that I believe have kept me healthy...

Hope this gives you some ideas... Simply tossing a banana and other fruits in the blender may sound and taste yummy but you need more than that...

God bless,
Ellen

oh, I forgot to mention, it is ALL organic... ONLY organic...

My husband likes the flavor of V-8, so I typed "V-8 juice recipe" into google and got some good ideas. We like the following combination (not too strict about it, though) and this makes about two 8 oz glasses.
1/8 of a large sweet onion
handful of spinach
1 large/2 tomatoes
2-4 carrots
small handful of parsley
1/8 red pepper
1 stalk celery (I like it better without)
a wedge of cabbage
1/2 - 1 apple

And then after if has been juiced we add some salt and a few drops of Crystal (tobasco).

If you can get a copy of Dr. Russell Blaylock's book, Natural Strategies for Cancer Patients, it is interesting and inspiring reading.

Enjoy your new project! I know we do.
Jane

Why not make your own from REAL vegetables...

V8 is very high in sodium, and their "natural flavorings" are nothing more than MSG, the vegetables are further treated to a heated process that strips most of the nutrients right out. So it would be better just to add your own real food to the blender... and make your own V8...organically too.

Simply read the ingredients of their "reconstituted" ingredients and substitute with fresh whole food... It may not be as easy (and we americans sure like our easy ways... drive-up burger joints, microwaves and frozen foods, etc.) but it would sure be healthier.

Sorry, I didn't make that clearer -- we do make our own juice only from REAL (also locally grown) vegetables. We were just trying to approximate the taste when typing in "V-8 recipe" on Google. You are right, there is nothing particularly beneficial to drinking the store-bought V-8.
Jane

OKay. I wonder if they make a Juicing/Vitamixing for Dummies book! lol

Ellen,
When I read what you put in your Vitamixer to drink...my eyes were WIDE open!
Do you mean you put SOme of those veggies in?? Or all of them in one drink???
It sounds like it may be very expensive.
And how much, just "a little of each"....maybe thats why it seems like so much....hmmm.
I may need a book!

Jane,
Do you use a Vitamix or a Juicer? Do they do the same thing?
Wow, can you all smell the smoke from my brain working overtime!

Holly

Yes, ALL of them...

I make one in the morning first thing, then a little later the next "big" one...

Now mind you, I worked into this. I have very strong taste buds now and have learned a few tricks to drink this down. (Lemon and ginger covers up alot of taste - and eating an orange with it helps too). At first I added some banana (or grapes) to everything to sweeten things up, then eventually dropped the banana because I don't LIKE the taste of sweets anymore and get a real headache from sweet foods.

I've been doing this for well over a year and a half... it does grow on you. :)

I put alot of spinach in compared to other foods - maybe two handfuls ... and a small handful of the rest. It makes about 2 glasses worth. And yes, it is expensive...but I justify by reminding myself that it is less expensive than drugs!

It all sounds -- scarey -- but I'm determined to try. Not sure if the budget can handle it, but at least I DO like spinach.

And fruit :)

Thanks for all the tips.

Granny,
I'll try it if you do! lol

Ellen,
Thanks so much for the info. I am going to make a list and get a rough estimate of cost. I may have to adjust the list a little.
I do remember reading in a book, BLC I think, that if you actually add up the cost of all the Fruits and Veggies....it will still be much cheaper than a "Normal" grocery bill.
I still have to get a Juicer or Vitamix...still not sure if there is a difference.
Holly

My secret is to put an apple in almost everything. apple/carrot, apple/beet, apple/celery. The apple sweetens it and makes almost anything taste good. A big favorite of mine is apple/mint/ginger. Celery/beet/apple is good too and of course the rabbit sunrise which is orange/carrot.

I have been juicing too. It is a lot of work. I appreciate ideas on best combinations. Some of our concoctions have been too nasty for me to drink. I hate to waste them because it is so expensive. I have been eating 100% raw for about 2 weeks. My tastebuds have definitely changed.

Keep the ideas coming.

I have been juicing Tommy carrot juice. We get organic carrots and then I usually slip something in like spinach, beets, celery, or ginger. But for the past couple of weeks I have not been able to put any greens in it because he can't drink it. So right now it is just carrots with an apple. I have drank carrot juice in the past just because it is good for you, so I think that is a good way to start. If you start out too strong, you can get really turned off to it, but it is a wonderful way to get your veggies in. I also try to get him to eat broccoli raw with a little dip, he hates broccoli but we're moving in the right direction.

Best of luck with the juicer.
Tina

Rabbit Sunrise! I love that, Texaszan! And that is my husband's favorite - 3 - 4 carrots (washed & trimmed, but not peeled) and one apple.

My mother likes a carrot/celery combination, again about 3 to 1. And I have to admit, it had a very nice, very fresh taste.

Kelly

Can anyone tell me what type of juicer your using? Or is it a Vitamix. I dont think I understand the difference.

Thank You Holly

How about broccoli/carrot/apple?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2008/jul/22/cancer.medicalresearch

I got a Juiceman Jr.

I don't know anything about vitamixes. Sounds like a different name brand of the same thing but I haven't a clue.

You guys have given me great pointers. I can tolerate carrots with another flavor, brocolli and spinache are both favorites of mine. And of course I love fruit.
