my mom diagnosed may '07 / radiation .. thought to be successful.. until it wasn't.. then 6 rounds of taxol carbo chemo.. giving it a break now.. 7-8 weeks into the break... AND NO CHANGE.. my mom is worse.. she sleeps 20 out of 24 hours.. she's down to 92 lbs... i thought stopping chemo would help?!?! is this the beginning of the end?? any advise would be helpful, she goes to Drs. Hi,
My experience was very similar. I was sleeping most of the day and absolutely could not eat for a couple of months after I had radiation daily and Chemo (weekly from Oct to Jan 06) Slowly my appitite came back as did my strength. I did lose over 40 pounds . I spent quite a bit of the time with my head in the toilet as well. When they did my Scans they were clear and have stayed that way until a month or so ago a tiny noduel has shown up and we are just keeping an eye on it. So, it certainly wasn't the end for me/ My family has since told me they were scared to death and sure I was nor going to make it. In reality, I didn't feel all that bad except for being more tired than I had ever been before.

My prayers are with you and I am sure all will be okay . Let us know how it goes.

Are steriods an option? They would at least give her a little energy and an appitite. Do you have her on *Boost or *Insure? They can really help with the weight loss and give so many things the body needs. I reccomend the *Boost Plus with High Protien. Is she staying hydrated? Dehydration can cause some major problems.

Guess I have more questions than answers but sometimes that is the best place to start.

Staying Hydrated Important.

i SO wanted to reply to your posting and thank you for the encouragement.. and to also give u an update.. so mom was supposed to go to dr.s monday the 10th.. however.. we had to call an ambulance on the 9th and they admitted her to the hospital. they said if we had waited another 24 hours, no telling what the outcome would have been.. SO the cancer is "reactive" chemo not an option at this point.. so, they got all the fluid into her, calcium, magnesium, etc etc. also a blood transfusion.. and appetite enhancement meds.. she was hospitalized until fri the 14th.. we brought her home with "minimal" hospice.. OMG they are so nice.. OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE MY MOM IS BACK... the change in her is SOO dramatic .. she looks and feels AWESOME.. even went out yesterday for some fresh air... we have hope.. and like dad says if you don't have hope, you don't have anything.. and who knows.. maybe with some weight gain.. chemo will again become an option.. Again.. Thank You SOO MUCH

I am sooo happy for you guys! Until I read your response, I had forgotten that I had to have blood transfusions too and they made a world of difference. Darn Chemo can really take a lot out of a person.(fortunately one of the things it takes is the nasty cancer!)
All my very best to you and your family.
