Yikes. That doesn't sound good. Are you eating the same amount you used to? Anything different? 21 pounds is a lot to lose in only two weeks if everything else has stayed the same. I'd probably go to the doctor if I were you.

I thought that was alot of weight!!! Everyone who comes over to see me is like oh my god!!!!! You are way to skinny!! And Im Italian and love my food!!! I must have not noticed my change in appetite or something.I wonder if its the pain killers making me not eat as much.Thanx for the input.I will call my doc tomorrow.-Kandy gurl

Hey Kandy,

I personally think 21 pounds is way too much, however, when my husband got finished with his surgery he proceeded to lose a bunch of weight also. He was eating pretty good also. From surgery to end of chemo he lost probably 30 lbs. He's now busy putting it back on and the doctors were never concerned with the loss.

Definitely check with your doctor though.

hey, Kandy,
If I'm not careful, those 21 pounds will grab hold of me and not let loose!!!
I agree with the others - call the doc first, and write a best-selling diet book second...

Kandy,

Things just aren't fair sometimes! I HOPED to lose weight after surgery and during chemo, and did not! I have lost over 20 lbs now - but in 3 months on Weight Watchers!!
Seriously, check with your doctor. That is a bunch of weight to lose in such a short time span. (But boy oh boy, it sounds good to me!!!)

Hi Sweetie:
This is too much wt. to lose in that period of time. Your picture looks like you were pretty small to begin with. You mentioned that you will have Chemo soon and you need to do something to build yourself up so you will be stronger for your treatment. Please talk to your doctor tomorrow and don't let them brush this off.

you guys are hysterical!!! Ok I will explain what happened The last apt. before surgery they weighed me in at 141.Went in hospital got surgery and out of no where I started to pig out I ate like it was my job.I also quit smoking so maybe that's why I went crazy lol.I ate cheese cake and ice cream it was crazy. So while there i gained 10 lbs so I was 151.Now im home 2 weeks and have barely any appetite I force myself to eat.I am now 131.so it is weird how it all went down but when I have visitors some start crying when they see me and others don't notice lol.So that's my story what do u think?

I am an RN and worked on surgical units my whole life.

I know that after major surgery many people gain fluid weight due to all the fluids given during surgery. It comes off pretty quickly after surgery. That could contribute to the loss.

Also- sounds like your appetite was just fine after surgery and you have really only lost 10 pounds from your normal weight.

You know some of my friends were all worried and said I had lost weight when I had actually gained like 10 pounds. But by far, most of them couldn't believe how good I looked and that I had had the surgery done.

I saw my doctor about 2 weeks after surgery- are you scheduled to see yours? If not, I would review the whole thing with him at least by phone.

If you are not sick and nauseous and able to eat, I would think it might be post op depression and just the trauma of the whole experience setting in causing the loss of appetite.

These are just thoughts. The bottom line is it is a significant weight loss that should be brought to your doctors attention.

Take care and keep us posted.

kandy - after all is said and done you only lost 10 pounds - I wouldn't worry - but I would keep track of what you are eating - when you do chemo you will want some extra weight on - at the end of the day I went from 147 at dx to 130 now and feel better .........xxx

Hey Kandy,

I lost 20 lbs during the 8 days in the hospital but it was due to not being able to eat anything during that time. I had a bad case of thrush that wasn't diagnosed till after I got home. I looked like I was too small for my skin.

Putting some weight back on was not a problem...

I only want to add, that after my surgery, a nutritionist came to see me in the hospital. She was pushing milkshakes !! I was overweight going in and was over weight coming out lol. But seriously, she said that because this was so a traumatic surgery I needed extra calories to heal...perhaps you just need more than you realize. Still, run it by the doc, can't hurt.

Kandy, please call your doctor to see what he might have to say about this. If you can't get him, urge his assistant to ask him about your weight and then get the feedback from her. But do call. I think when one loses a lot of weight quickly, it's mostly fluid so maybe that's all that's going on.

We all care about you; maybe we should send you care packages full of high calory stuff??

Try not to worry, take good care of yourself, and know how much you're cared about.

The pain killers have killed my husband's appetite so that would be my guess. He wanted to lose some weight but not this way!

I lost about 22 lb after surgery also and then chemo I lost more.
My wife when we were walking (i was shuffling) around our estate would say com on fat boy hurry up.
Still calls me that now, I am the same weight as when I left hospital 81kg happy with that just have less muscle and fat.

Kandy,

You were 141, went up to 151, and now you're down to 131....I'd call that a 10 lb. loss, not a 20 lb. loss. (The 151 was not a legit. weight)

And, you got a dx of lc and major surgery and more tests to come and you have two kids to care for....that is incredible stress/trauma for one young woman. Stress revs up your metabolism.

Believe it or not, my husband's surgeon, Dr. Harvey Pass, recommended that my husband LOSE weight after the lobectomy. He said that with the diminished lung capacity (1.5 lungs as opposed to 2) that his breathing would be that much better if he lost weight. So, a 10 lb. weight loss is probably not a bad thing.

However, I agree with all the compassionate posters here who suggested you tell your doctor.

PS I'm 151 and want to weigh 140....I would gladly fed ex you the 11 lbs.

..errr, like how heavy ?..

..hey Kandy, you still weigh more than i ever did, 52-54 kilos, say 110 to 120 lbs, mind you, i can still lift and load 60k grain sacks so i guess i'm stuck with being wiry..

..sigh, and i always wanted those big shoulders..

..i blaim my parents..
