Last December I was diagnosed IIIb non-operable lung cancer. I got chemo-radio-chemo for half a year. After the CT showed big shrinkage. I sent the CT to an other hospital (in Frankfurt) where they told it is IIIa and can be operated. I had the surgery on October 31 and presently I am "cancer free". I am sure it could not be done without the chemo-radio-chemo but in the original hospital they didn't want to operate. It depends on the experiences of the surgery doctor as well!
Please never give up and always ask a second or third opinion. There are really big differences!

JustLisa, lower lobe of right lung was taken and a small spot (6 mm tumor) from the upper lobe, under video.
Of course no garantee of anything, therefore I am modestly glad.

Hi, I have stage IIIb nsclc and gone thru radiation and finishing my chemo. Where did you go in Frankfurt? How did you find it? I will be getting my scans in January and want to be ready for what kind of options I have. thanks

So happy for you, and right you are.

I have a dear friend who was told, by one of the finest academic medical centers in the country, that her eye had to come out because of a tumor in her orbit (housing for the eye).

Well, much investigation and anguish, later, she landed at Johns Hopkins' wonderful eye institute (that was in Nov. of '06). Three surgeries, later, she is cancer-free. So, yes, everyone should be aggressive about 2nd, 3rd, and 4th opinions.
