Second Month on Tarceva

0 Recommendations

Hi- my dad was diagnosed with what sounds like stage II nsclc about a month ago-- his doc wouldn't stage it officially, but location is in the left lung wrapped around the bronchus, with no mets to the nodes or other organs. Surgery is not an option at this time due to location, so he's started on Tarceva. A month into treatment and the tumor has not grown, but it hasn't shrunk either.
For those of you with experience on Tarceva, is there an expected timeline for the tumor to react and shrink?

My Dads Oncologist said tarceva is only used when there is mets to other organs and would not even discuss it with my Dad.

Fortunately, my dad's doc is being very aggressive with treatment and has skipped traditional chemo and moved right to Tarceva. You should push the issue.

Thanks for your reply Chessie-too-- it's the waiting that gets me more than anything. I can't imagine how it makes Dad feel... the more I read, 3 months seems to be the litmus test as to whether or not it's working, so- I think we were just hoping for quicker results!

He has been suffering with the rash, as well as a couple of the other side effects. The good news is it's not growing, so the next logical step is that it will shrink.

We'll keep positive and send healing energy.

Thanks again-- take care of yourself, continued good luck and positive results to you.
