Scans clear! :)

0 Recommendations

Hi All,

Just wanted to let you know that my scans are TOTALLY clear! I had a 4.0x4.5 cm typical carcinoid removed via open surgery on February 12th. At the time I was staged at IIB. Now they say I have No Evidence of Disease! I did a CT scan and something called an octreotide scan (it's usually done for carcinoid tumors and is 92% sensitive... very good!)

I am SO happy and went out to dinner last night with my wonderfully supportive hubby to celebrate. I know the news is what we all expected because my onc told me I had an excellent prognosis post-op, but I gotta tell you, it's really nice to see those words: "no evidence of recurrent, remnant or metastasis tumor"... yayyyy!

Much love to all the supportive people on this site --
Liliana

Hi Liliana!

Don't worry about being clear and a few months later the beast is back!!!! I don't agrre, and since we're dealing with a typical carcinoid, It is 99.9999999999 percent it won't be back. The truth of the matter is: CARCINOID is different from all other lung cancers and the proof is me, who has been 27 years lung carcinoid free.
Love,
Regina.

Congratulations.......may you have many many more (forever) clear scans.
Karen

Fantastic - Congratulations and hope you are still celebrating!

wonderful news! Keep up the god work! Stay healthy and celebrate.
God bless Sandy

Hi Les,
I had a similar small tumor in my upper right lobe. My doctor assures me that I will be fine. I had my surgery on Dec.10th and since then two scans, both clean.
We have to believe that we have beat this disease. It takes time to heal and seven months later I am still sore. PLEASE walk everyday. Exercise and you will get back your lung function.
Good luck to you. Please post your scan results. You have a lot of people who know what it feels like and are praying for you.
Best wishes,
Anne

Congratulations!!!! I had my surgery on December 10th. My tumor was 1.5 cm in my upper right lobe. The surgeon removed the lobe, nodes and some chest muscle. It was discovered through a routine chest x-ray. Since then I had had two clear scans. Even though the doctor assured me that I would be fine, I worried. It has taken me almost seven months to feel safe again.
We are so blessed to be healthy. I wish you all the best. Stay positive, strong and spirited. I will look forward to updates from each of your scans. We all need to support each other.
Anne

Hi Liliana,
I know how happy and the sense of relief you have! I have to share with you my similar story that happened Oct of 2005. I was 35 and on my honeymoon. I was walking the hills of San Fran. and was so short of breath, my first symptom. I had an xray at a walk in clinic which was "fine", but when I got back home to Fl. I received a certified letter that my xray had a growth on it. After a ct, pet, angiogram, and biopsy we found out it was typical carcinoid. Prior to my surgery the doctor wanted to make sure I would be okay without my entire left lung, so I went through more testing including an echo and then specific testing for carcinoid hormones (urine, blood and also an OctreoScan). My tumor was 6 cm and I had it for probably more then 2 years. My surgeon consulted with Moffitt cancer specialists and reassured me the treatment would be removal of the tumor. I was almost excited to have surgery, so I could get on with my life, my marriage, my new home, etc. I was the worst patient because I am a nurse and my husband a paramedic. I ended up having a left lung removal about 4 weeks after the diagnosis. The pain was unspeakable, there is no pain like a thoracotomy. It is the worst type of incision, in the worst place of our bodies. I still have to watch what type of bathing suit I wear or anything around my chest, especially any undergarments, it is very sensitive. One month after my surgery I became pregnant (I blame it on the pain medication), that was the best way to take our minds off of the surgery! My son is now 2 1/2 and we just visited San Fran. again, this time I walked the hills without my friend Shortness of Breath! My advise to you is to build up your stamina by using a treadmill or bike, your lung capacity will adapt to help out where your lung was removed. I can't end this note without mentioning how this was such a traumatic event in my life and for my family and friends, I couldn't have gotten through it without the prayers of so many, especially all the Novenas to St. Terese (this Catholic Saint now holds a special place in our home and lives). Although I am a nurse, I had no idea what it was like to wait for test results (that is the worst), or to have healthcare providers that really cared. Take care Liliana and all others that have gone through this, I feel somedays like I could write a book! Dawn (North Port, Fl)
