Rare nsclc

Does anyone have experience with this type rare lung cancer? I have not seen anyone on here mention it, it is called adenocarcinoma with broncheoalveolar features or bac features. They do not know what causes it and can only tell me some people live for years with it and others don't do so good as it is usually contained to the lungs but usually affects both lungs and has bilateral nodules. As far as they can tell has not gotten into the lymph nodes. One of 2 nodules was malignant on left and do not know about right lung as none were biopsied but don't seem to have a lot of uptake on pet. I have been so confused as to whether it was even cancer or not and would not believe at first it was, still have some doubts but feel they must know. I felt like maybe I was going through chemo for nothing and it is hard on an old lady. I would sure love to talk to anyone who has had experience with this type. As a matter of fact, I now do have some knowledge as well as some experience on this topic but only learned it all very recently. I had a tumor in my left upper lung, found by a chest xray, truly by accident. Everyone got very aggressive about it, and within a two week span, I had had a stress test, Pet scan, biopsy and last week had a left upper lobectomy. I'm sure your doctors are treating you appropriately, and will put you on my prayer list right now. Surgery is tough, but they think they got it all....Wow! Now I feel a bit guilty because so many out there are ao sick, and I gripe about a bit of pain. God be with You, Mitzi.

They would not do the upper left lobectomy at the last minute for fear other nodules were malignant and didn't think they should start whittling away a little piece at a time as maybe that would hurt me more.. So just a wedge resection and removed two nodules....Yes, I think they are, had it done at Moffitt Cancer center here in Florida, now taking chemo every 3 weeks for 4 months and just now half way through. Surgery was going to be a 96% chance of full recovery, don't know what it is now, since they didn't remove upper lobe but did have wedge resection. I suppose according to what possibly escaped during surgery and how much the chemo cleans up. You are the only person I have seen to have this, it is not a common one but also not that rare. I was rushed through all of the tests and surgery and into chemo also. They didn't waste any time. Please keep me informed as to how you are doing and we can compare notes. Thank you for writing. I also have BAC-i had middle lobe removed and wedge of upper lobe done in sept 08-i just started chemo- I have stage 2-Drs thought it was going to be stage 1, but it went into a few if the nodes.
From what I kknow about BAC is it usually affects women more than men. It is suppose to be slow growing.

I was dx stage IB BAC in april of 2005. I am now stage IV and have had a varitety of treatments, but I am doing really well. Check my earlier post (expanding hope for treatment) if you wish to see the details, and best of luck to you.

I am wondering if you have strictly bac or just the features. There is a bac but I thought mine was different as not being bac but with the features and my understanding was it is very different. I may be confused( wouldn't be the first time) In fact I thought the prognosis for bac was much better than the adenocarcinoma with broncheoalveolar features. I know there are two different ones. I need to read more into it and I am saying mine was stage one, actually they said they cannot stage it as it has not have mets and is listed as T-1, they just weren't very good in telling me and the family... I thought mine is BAc, but to be honest I could be wrong. I guess I'm not quite sure of the difference either.
I just start chemo-I develped staph infectiong following surgery. Had to wait for that to clear up.

I don't know about survival rates, percent of LC that is BAC, but mine was diagnosed as Mucinous adenocarcinoma, mixed subtype, with acinar (40%), papillary (40%) and bronchioloalveolar (20%). I am/was a T2N0M0 in 12/07 and had chemo (my choice). I have had all NED CT scans (5) since my surgery.

erinroro, very, very good, the only PET I had 6 mo after surgery showed nothing, due for another one soon. I thought it would be this week, but blood not right so have to get it built up before chemo again. Sure going to mess up Christmas postponing chemo but guess it has to be done. Hi there,
I was dx this year in june and had a upper and middle right lobe removed on 1 July, I had 3 tumors which were adenocarcinoma and then I had large areas of BAC around the middle lobe. I also had large areas of adenohperplasia, which resulted in the specalist saying seize the day which is what we are now doing, I asked about the BAC and was told that it is a subtype of adenocarcinoma and usually more common in women than me. Thank you, I will be thinking of you and praying for you also. I know they say more and more women are getting this, but also men, not just in the same proportions. And No, they told me at the hospital and a radiologists that it is not caused by smoking, we really need more research on these lung cancers, they cannot just say you smoke, you ask for this. They do not know what causes it. Could just be environmental. They need to delve into it and get us a cure. Good luck on your treatment and the best to all you are suffering from this horrible disease. May God be with all of you through all the trials of this.

Hi, I was told that BAC could not be treated by chemo or radiation only by the pill that has come out I think a little while ago. So I get confused when I read about people with bac that have been treated with chemo.

Thank you Mrsjubs, will be thinking of you and praying for each and all who are suffering from this nasty disease. Sounds like you were diagnosed right before I was. They were pretty sure in May but had to go through all the pet scans and biopsy. First one they couldn't get enough tissue so had to do the other one during surgery. Magazine2 I was told at Moffitt after surgery, I should have chemo and should be started within 6 weeks of surgery in case any cells escaped. Mine is not bac but adenocarcinoma with bac features. There is a difference I guess and probably are treated differently. Did you get a second opinion on yours and are you doing well on the pill? If you are doing well that is fine but if not I would get a 2nd opinion. I know some cancers you can have surgery and some you can't also so I don't know about the not having chemo. Just hope it is working for you or they can try something different. Pray for a cure for all of us from the beast. Arletta
