quick weight gain

hi, dad's lost a lot of weight (stage 4, nsclc, adenocarcinoma)..having a hard time putting the weight back on in between chemos...drs suggest ensure, but i've heard it's too sugary, empty calories, etc. we got him the weight gainer protein powder from gnc..just wanted to know if anyone had any non-sugary ideas for gaining weight (oh, he also has cealiac, so he can't have wheat/bread/pasta)..thanks, janine

How about oatmeal or baked potatoes with various toppings like sour cream, butter, broccoli and cheese. Peanut butter is good too.

I don't eat any sugar so it's a little harder to gain. Also macaroni and cheese by Stouffer's with or without the broccoli is good too.

If he has a sweet tooth, you can get sugar-free pies and cakes now and they're not half bad.

Just a few suggestions.

Good luck and God Bless.

Possibly avocados, olive oil, "natural" nutrition drinks from a health food store, homemade smoothies with protein powder and high-calorie ingredients, maybe including peanut or other nut butter,...

Good luck and God bless,
Kathy

Try a shake made from bananas, peanut butter, vanilla ice cream, whole milk and honey. Add protein powder and you have a perfect food drink. Plenty of calories too!Tell your Dad to eat tons of Blueberries and other anti-oxidant foods. It can only help...I have a commercial malted mix (shake) machine which makes an incredibly smooth and thick very tasty shake. I see from the name your Dad is Italian..me too..eventually, we Mediterranean people become sensitive to wheat..(too much bread and pasta)..I am Italian too, and from Brooklyn originally..I also follow a wheat free diet..Good luck to your Dad
