Question on Stomach Problems

0 Recommendations

Hi All,

I know I have written a few discussions on Sam's clinical trial, but I have a new problem. I am at work, but a family member is taking him to the rad onc. today just to get a baseline of when treatment will start. Since we opted out of this chemo trial on Tues (last dose on Mon) on Wed and since he has the dry heaves on the time. It's white and fluid like and he says his stomach is full. We just had a ct scan less than 2 weeks ago and his liver was fine. I gave him zofran and he slept OK but after drinking some water he called to tell me he is heaving again. He will ask the rad onc. about this but I don't know if he will have any answers. Anyone gone thru this? Should I give it a day or so? or call his onc.?

Thanks,
Marie

MiraLax Cancer Gastroparesis Nausea and vomiting Reglan

Is Sam a diabetic?? I have diabetic gastroparesis, and take a compounded drug, domperidone for nausea and vomiting. Works wonders. peace love joy Von

Marie, When my husband was going through chemo, he suddenly got to the point where he didn't want to eat because he said he was feeling full. He also was not having bowel movements. We found out the chemo paralyzed his stomach muscles and he wasn't moving out any of the food he was taking in. The doctor gave him reglan and everything started moving again. I know now there is a lot of problems with regland but maybe there is something else to use. Don't wait to let the onc know what is going on. Call them.

Hi linbur,

Well, we just got out of the hospital this morning and after a CT scan of his stomach, it is that his bowels are impacted. This has never happended before, I didn't know that the food has no where to go and comes back up, and that awful full feeling he keeps complaining about. The answer was 1 bottle of mag. citrate and 1 doculax last night which worked and daily miralax and 1 TB of mineral oil. The doctors at Brigham & Women's were really great. He must stay on this regimen of miralax and mineral until he starts to have a daily movement.

Thanks,
-Marie

Hi Marie,

I know it is gross, the same thing happened to my Mom to the point that they drained her bowels with a tube down her throat. She stays on Miralax now and everytime she is constipated we panic. She is 88 and does not have cancer. I on the other hand have the opposite effect.
Ok now isn't it funny we can talk about anything on this site.
Glad to hear Sam is back on course.

Linda

Marie, Glad to hear they found the problem and can fix this one pretty easily.
