Question for SCLC members

0 Recommendations

Or anyone else that would like to respond. Some of you have read and responded to my discussion yesterday on my bad news. I appreciate each and every piece of advise and supoort recieved. I am coming out of shock mode and don't intend to just go off and lie down.
I have another appt with the onc on th 5th, and intend to do as much reasearch as I can before then on 2nd line treatment for SCLC. And try to see about a 2nd opinion from MD Anderson. It's about 2 hours away so it's doible but I hate to think of going there.
Please Please share with me your treatments and responsis'. I probably asked this same question after I finished 1st line, but have no idea where to look.

My husband started with Carbo/VP16 (6 cycles) and chest radiation(10 sessions), then Topotecan (3 cycles). Now he is on Taxol (has had 5 cycles). He also had PCI. Basically he has had chemo every 3 weeks since Jan 14, I think.

Good luck.

M.D. Anderson is the best. Why not drop iin there first????..............................M.C.

Not to sound bossy, but I think that you must go to MD Anderson--phenomenal place, and you are (only) two hours away. You may hear a completely different story of treatment and outcome from them, and you cannot have thoroughly fought this beast if you haven't exhausted the resources of one of the top oncologic centers in the world.

Please go and best, best of luck to you.

Hi Julie - i agree with the others - go to MD Anderson for another opinion. Also i would encourage the docs to do something about the bleeder in your brain. You are in my thoughts and prayers and I'll look for your updates.

So glad you're considering MD Anderson! They saved my the life of a dear friend of mine. I'm happy to hear you're ready to do battle. I was afraid you were calling hospice and giving up. Never give up! You can turn things around. You just need some highly skilled help and MD Anderson is the place to find that help.

Hi Julie-

I am so sorry to hear about the bad news and double sorry if your doctor is not supportive of your fight. My dad's doctor told him he could quit taking any treatment also after his SCLC returned and I am so thankful he did not stop fighting. He has finished 4 rounds of Topotecan and Taxol and in his Sept. scans numerous liver tumors have either reduced in size or are gone. Since his recurrence in July he has taken a trip to Atlantic City and just a few weeks ago drove with his girlfriend from MN to CO and got together with all 4 of his siblings. I know it's not easy to head back to the chemo unit but you just don't know how things will go so if you have some fight left in you, go for it. I know as a caregiver I don't know exactly what you are going through, but I am praying for you and thinking of you.

I would like to know what MD Anderson tells you if you do decide to go there. My Dad is currently undergoing chemo again for a recurrence of his SCLC. They are doing the same chemo (carbo, VP-16 and vincristine) they did before since he only had 4 rounds of it last time and responded so well. He's done 2 so far (6 in all) and has 2 more, then another scan. Please keep us posted, whatever you decide to do. Best of luck to you.......you're in my thoughts.

Julie,
Go to MD Anderson and see what they have to say.
Maybe you could treat at home under their advisement. I am thinking of you and keep us updated.
