Progression of disease

0 Recommendations

Hi,
I know everyone is different when it comes to the progression of SCLC Extensive stage. The stats are poor. I have been trying to find out from doctors what I can expect in the line of care my husband may need in the future. I am not getting anywhere exept my family doctor advised my daughter that we may want to look at hospice facilities. This really scares me as I am not familiar with sickness. Our family has been so blessed in that we have not had to deal with anything like this in the past. I don\t want to over react, but on the other hand I would like to be somewhat prepared in what may be comming.
During the last two of my husband's chemo cycles of five he did exeptional well. Five weeks have passed since his last treatment and in the past week he is getting tired much more quickly. He has a very sore lower back and his left leg feels as if it is giving out on him. Any experiences or suggestions?
Thank you, MM

Folic acid

Hi there, sorry to hear about your husband. Has he had any new scans since his treatment ended? Have they talked about putting him on a maintenance tx? Also, in a previous post, I mentioned that he needs to stay very hydrated. Ask his doctor about taking folic acid and B12 shots. These help with side effects and building the immune system. It is a good idea to set up hospice now. They will be very helpful to your entire family as well. Good luck and take care, JC

When my Dad, then my Mom passed away last year, I had never had any experience with illness either. It's amazing how quickly you learn when you have no other choice.

I agree with your family Dr., you should check out the hospice facilities in your area. You may not need them for a long time, but if you do you will have already done your homework and will know how to proceed.

Best of luck to you and your husband -
