Problem for me big time

0 Recommendations

I just had mri that shoiws quite a few mets to various parts of my brain. I had just completed wbrt 6 weeks ago and some ares had to be blocked because of prior radiation 10 years ago. My Rad. Doc. will try to come up with a plan do do more radiation and of course there could be bad repercussions. Is there a chemo drug that works on the brain area? My Pet scan work great the Carbo/etoposide work wonders now this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated .

I am sorry about these mets coming back. I don't know any chemo that crosses the blood brain barrier, but Tarceva, the Targeted Therapy Pill does. Wish I could help more.
Good Luck and please let us know what you find out.
Marylou

They are finding now, I read someplace don't ask me where, but I did read that some chemo drug they believe is crossing the blood brain barrier, ask an oncologist about this, or even check with lung cancer alliance, or the American Cancer society. I know Tarceva does cross the barrier also. Good luck, and God bless Sandy i just know there will be something out there to treat you with,. Keep up your faith, and your spirit, and hope.
God bless Sandy

I believe the drug Sandy is referring to is Avastin...

There used to be some hesitancy to use it with brain metastasis involvement... then I heard that is "old" news...

I would seek an opinion from a doctor who is versed with complimentary care and eastern medicinals as well as western traditional.

God bless,
Ellen

I want to thank the three of you for your time and interest. You ladies are always lending support every where on this site. My Onc is very good and hopefully, she'll have an alternative for me on Monday. I am just lost right now along with my wife.

Avastin and Tarceva are used for NSCLC. I am on Topotecan and Taxol for reccurrent SCLC and was told by my Onc at Mayo that the Taxol has been found to cross the brain barrier. Watch the responses as many with NSCLC reply and the chemo drugs used are very different for them.

Butch, try posting your question on cancergrace.org and see what the cancer specialists have to say. Good luck and take care, JC

Thanks JC. I just did that never really looked at that site. Thank you for the info too Gazelle

Hi Butch, depending on how many there are and the size of the metastasis in the brain, if there are not many of them and if they are not too large, you may be able to have gamma knife done to them. Perhaps you can ask your oncologist about that possibility. I wish you the best.

Thank ypu owesly unfortuniately there are inumerable round T2foci are are scattered throughout the cerebellar hemispheres, pons and bilateriaal anterior temporal lobes with abmormal enhancement. A portion of these foci demonstrate restricted diffusion. The largest mass approx. 1 cmx 0.8 cm and located within the right cerebellar hemisphere . Finding are compatible with Metastic foci. I also have an acoustic neurome which I had cyberknifed ove4r a year ago now this. Oh well we'll see what they can come up with. AS long as I don't become an invilid. Praying to God
