Hi Had the same thing after my left lung was removed......Thought I would die the pain with each cough felt like a knife.....Called my Dr at Moffitt and he told me to take Claritan Over the counter and with surgery can deveope allergies.......Slept like a baby.....Couldnt believe....Stage 1b and feeling great...Hope this helps

Hi Lucyk: I had my right upper lobe removed in July but not by VATS. I was stage 1B adeno with BAC. I was in the hospital for a week after surgery and when I got home I started coughing. Interestingly enough I did not cough when I lie down so I did not have it the five days I was in the hospital. Luckily I was able to sleep at night. I did see my surgeon for a chest x-ray just to make sure I did not have an infection. It took 4 months before the cough finally tapered off and now is almost gone. We tried all different meds and nothing worked. I thought I would lose my mind because it hurt to constantly cough and I never thought I would heal, especially since I had a 7 inch incision in my back. It also appeared worse when I carried on a conversation. The cough has now almost finally gone away but it took forever so do not despair. If the Claritin helps that would be wonderful. There is another person in my support group that developed a cough after her lobectomy and hers went away after 2 months.

Hi there,
I had a right upper and middle lobe removed and developed a cough about 3 months later, dr says it is nothing to worry about and gave me an inhaler which helped, hope it disappears soon
