Has anyone out there had any of the following.
My mom has had abad cough for a long time. She stopped smoking almost 2 years ago but the cough stayed. She stayed 5 days in the hospital doing breathing treatments, antibiotics, pain med. during this time they found a small mass in lower left lung. She also has a pulmonary infusion on this same lung. I had to take her back the the ER yesterday difficulty breathing and really bad pain. They said the infusion had mildly increase and gave her more pain med's. The pain med's aren't working good now and wear off before they are supposed to. Her doctor (primary care) said she would had to try to treat the pain for now and he would do another CT scan in a couple months but he thought it was going to end up being lung cancer. Has anyone else had this and the treatment be this way. I am so confused if he thinks it is cancer why is he waiting so long to try to do anything. She is worse now than when she went into the hospital. She also doesn't have any insurance so I am guessing this is why she has been put off. Any one have any advise on this Please Help

When they found the mass in her lung, they did nothing else? And she was in the hospital? Where do you live-Booneyland? I'd tell her PCP to make a referral to an onc ASAP. If he won't, then take her back to the ER with all kinds of complaints-can't breath, extreme pain, etc. Tell them about the mass that was found last time and ask for a CT scan. Don't worry about insurance, it doesn't matter at this point. Good luck and take care, JC

I ditto that. They should not be waiting. Go to oncologist or ER but get your mom a CT ASAP. Early detection is key. Follow up and keep us posted. Prayers to you all.
God bless.

Hi. sorry to hear about your mom. It is bad enough to be ill and its worse to have to deal with the logistics and incompetence of people we rely upon to treat us. Try a few practical things -
- tell your PCP that as a doctor who suspects cancer, he needs to order all the tests NOW. That is the law.
- to get immediate ER attention, say "can't breath" "chest pain". that ranks high in triage. then keep mentioning the lung mass, the need for cancer scans and biopsy, etc.
DO NOT wait passively for doctors to bring up a topic. The more the patient/ caregiver mentions things, the more it becomes on record and DOCTOR / ER HAS TO ADDRESS THE CONDITION.

As to insurance, please check your mom's medicare.
Hang in there. Praying for you and your mom.

They did do the CT scan and it shows a mass in the lower left lobe with pulmony enfussion on the same lung. They say (ER) they need to wait at least a month a repeat the CT scan to see if the mass has had any changes. They did a regular chest exray and it show mild increase in the enfussion(not sure it spelled right). They sent her home with more pain med. and said to follow up with her primary care Dr in two days so that didn't really help taking her to the ER. I am looking into a lung specialist that has an indingent care program since she has no insurance. She is not old enough for medicare and doesn't qualify for medicaid. So.....right now we are pretty much screwed.
Thanks for the prayers and the replies it make me feel better that I am not the only one that thinks her doctor is nuts.
