Paralyzed vocal cord.

First a brief history. Pulmonary nodule of 1cm found in CAT and PET scans. It is in my right lung. It was active in Feb. Scanned again in May. It was not as active but lymph nodes were still active. I am scheduled for next CAT scan in Sept. I was at the ear nose throat doctor and she discovered that my right vocal cord is paralyzed. She said it usually means cancer. I have lost some weight, had a lot of trouble swallowing and a more tired feeling. How alarmed should I be and please do not sugar coat the reply.
Thanks very very much and God bless all of you here!

Jamie,

At minimum, I would get in contact with your onc. and tell about what the ear, nose, throat doctor found.
Good luck and God Bless.

I'd be on the phone calling an Oncologist - one year before I discovered the mass in my right lung I had a "seseme seed" thingy in my vocal cord - I stopped smoking for two weeks and "poof" it went away - if I had gone to a Oncologist THEN and not waited a full year I would have been stage 1A - I was dx'd at Stage 2B - go to a Oncologist. Good luck!

Run, do not walk, to your oncologist. Vocal cords affect breathing as well as speech. Caught early, you can rehab your vocal cords. Caught early, you can have potential cancer surgically removed. I'm so glad you've asked for advice on this site. I hope very much that your fast action will mean a great prognosis! Sounds like you've got a great chance!

HI Jamie.
I would get an appointment as soon as you can. The same thing happened to my father in law. He lost his voice and wasn't feeling well and losing weight. We found out once they could biopsy it that it was cancer. I wouldn't wait until Sept. Good luck.

I was sick for 6 months before an ENT doctor discovered my paralyzed vocal cord and ordered a CT scan. That's when they found the lung cancer between my lungs. At that point, I couldn't speak well, couldn't breathe well, and choked on almost everything I ate.

The doctors said it was permanent damage to my vocal cord, but I did get my voice back about 4 months after I started chemo.

Recommend you have scans, whether ordered by ENT or oncologist, as soon as possible.

Thanks to all of you for the responses. I had my pet scan on the 12th. My Dr. called and said there was some confusion with the report. It stated there was an area that increased from 8 to 4? The question is did they have the right word and wrong numbers or are the numbers right and the wording is wrong? My lung Dr is trying to get clarification from the imaging group.
