I was dx in May 09 - both lungs and spread to liver. I was getting three types of chemo every three weeks. My last pet scan shows that the cell are not active (dead cancer) the tumors are all still there and with non small cell it will become active again. I now only get two types of chemo as a maintance every three weeks. I can get another Cat scan in three weeks but don't know that I want to, the dye isn't good for the kidneys and I don't want to damage any other spots. I might just wait until I can get another Pet scan (depending on Insurance of course) My doctor says it doesn't really matter - going to do the same no matter what. I just don't know what to expect.

Who says that the cancer will return because it is non small cell? It may never return. Don't listen to people who talk off the top of their heads, or compare you to other people, you are unique and cancer is also unique. In each person everything is as different as night and day. Many people will have it return, but not everyone. Why can't you be one of the ones who will never see it return. No reason you can't be one of the survivors.
Expect that you will live to see tomorrow. This is all any of us can hope to expect. We don't have any answers in life,, none of us do. And for those of us given a death sentence as we have been told we have. We feel it more strongly I think than others who live day to day and don't have to worry so much. I know we all die some day, but that doesn't make it easier on us having to know that we were told we would die earlier than we should with cancer.
I try and get on with my life when I can, Mostly I sit around and do nothing which is a big mistake. I just decided yesterday, I can sit here and wait for God to take me, or get up and go out and do something while I am waiting. I got up last night and went to Bingo. I am glad I did, I was afraid I would be not getting out anymore. I am my own worse enemy. Don't follow in my footsteps. Get out and live for today, and don't listen to people who tell you anything bad.
God bless Sandy

Look up the Lucinex trial. It's a vaccine that has been said to work very well to help your immune system kill the cells. Long term survival has reported. It's in the phas III stage. Can't have over 6 chemo treatments and still get on it. It's been held in various states. There may be one close to you. http://cancer.ucsd.edu/AboutUs/News/stories/Lucanix.asp Also, do a search on this site and read about it.

Oh Boy,
Another doom and gloom Oncologist? Honey, why don't you go somewhere for a second opinion? It probably would do you good.

Cancer does have a way of coming back but that's not the point here. You just have to stay ahead of this beast no matter what. I think if I were you I would ALSO check out that vaccine, can't hurt.

You have to believe! Adopt the Journey song "Don't Stop Believing." It's my anthem!!

Love to all,
Marylou

Marylou, every day you cheer up others, and I am blessed by your joy and humor. You are such an inspiration and blessing to me!
Long distance HUGS!

Thanks Nancy,
If I can make a difference in just one life, that helps me too. It's important for us to help one another in any way we can. After all, isn't that what we are here for?

Do you know what I was just doing? Found some youtube clips of Journey's performance in Philadelphia JFK Stadium June 4, 1983, Their Frontiers tour. I was there! What a blast !!

Much Love,
Marylou

Wow, don't think I've heard of an onc saying it will be there again. What a positive jerk huh? I would go to cancergrace.org and ask the cancer specialists there what they might recommend next. Good luck and take care, JC

thanks - I've already had 8 chemo treatments. Guess that's too many for the shot.
