Hi everyone. I am new to this website. Here is my story:
My mother went for a routine exam 1.5 months, had a chest x-ray and the dr found what looked like to be "fluid". He sent her for a CT scan. Scan showed mass, not fluid. He referred her to a PULM and he ordered a PET. PULM told her she has Stage 3a-b LC, not operable and take as many sleeping pills as you want.
Obviously not satisfied with this DX we went for a second opinion at NY Presb in NYC. He looked over her reports and this is what he found.
She is Stage 1-2 NSC and operable. OMG! Those are the best words I ever heard, besides hearing my son cry straight out of the womb, LOL.
We have a pre-op appt tomorrow and she is set for surgery this Thursday. He is going to first biopsy the nodules around her windpipe, just to make sure those are not cancerous, if not, then he is going to remove her right upper lobe. Sorry if I am not up on abbreviations but I will get there. She will follow up with some chemo. If they are cancerous then he will not go ahead with the surgery and she will have chemo first and then the surgery.
ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION!!!!!!
I am so proud of my mother, she obviously quit smoking, today is Day 11, but she is fighting two battles, the stress and anxiety of her DX and the withdrawl symptoms from not smoking. She smoked 50+ years and it is super hard but she is doing it!
Anyone else battle these two at the same time? Any tips on preparing/recovering from the surgery?
Thanks for listening.
