Hi All, My husband was dx'd in October with nsclc at a stage 1b. He had his upper right lobe removed and did well. He started chemo 3 weeks ago and will have his second round this week.
Not knowing what to do when this all began, I searched the net. Scary stuff in there. Today my son found this site for me because my husband has had a cough that has increased to a really bad one. I just knew he has something wrong.
I wanted to thank all of you out there for your comments on the cough thing. It at least feels more "normal" for him now. So thank you. I will continue to check in and out as new things come up. I wish someboday had a "cancer 101" class! This is a very hard thing.

Hello,

I was also a Stage 1B amd had my left upper lobe removed followed by 4 doses of chemo. That was three years ago, finished chemo in Oct. '05) and I am feeling great and living life.

All the best and be positive!

Peggy

Welcome Peri,

It is good your husband was diagnosed at 1b, I had my lobectomy in March 07. The Dr I had at the time did not want to give me chemo cause he did not feel it would do any good. He took a ct every 3 mos. and watched it grow 20% and all he said was we will take another CT in 3 months. That's when I went for a 2nd opinion. I am now stage IV. In Jan 08 they started me on carbo & taxil every 3 weeks and I needed a shot of neulasta which makes your bones feel like they are being crushed. I have never received radiation and if they aren't mentioning it I won't either. LOL. I am now on Avastin which seems to be keeping everything the same so as long as it is not growing or spreading I am happy.
I just returned from a cruise to Mexico and had a great time. So I continue to enjoy life and intend to travel whenever I can.
Wishing you & your husband success in this battle and enjoy the holidays with your family & friends.

Peri, I was diagnosed with Stage 1b in May 2006. The lower left lobe was removed. I had 4 chemo treatments of taxotere and carboplatin spaced 3 weeks apart.

I am currently in cancer remission.

Best wishes for his husband.

Bette

Peri,
I was diagnosed with 1b (T2N0M0) in Dec 07. I had surgery and chemo, and have now had 5 clear CT scans. You and your husband are doing the right things. But do not look at the statistics you might find online... they are old, and frightening. Live your life, check in here once in a while, and keep smiling! Humor and happiness fight the beast!

Erin

Thank you so much for the encouragement!

Peri

Linda,
Thank you for your openess! This is such a good place to talk to people who understand. Good luck and thanks again!

Peri

Wow, I am really excited about all the people who have written. There are so many out there with the same stuff!

Thank you for the uplifting message.

Hello Peri,

My husband had his RLL removed 2-2008 followed by four cycles of chemo. Two of cisplatin/navelbine and two of taxol/carboplatin. NED as of his last Pet scan in October. He was considered stage 1b also.

Take one day at a time and be glad they caught his early.

God Bless.

Khari

Thank you so much. I have been reading all the positive response to him and it has really encouraged him. He is a little down with all the hair loss and coughing so this has been really positive!

Peri

hi there,

I hope your husband if feeling a little better now, I am also dx a stage 1B, had a right upper and middle lobectomy in july. As i live in new zealand the doctors over here do not treat stage 1B with anything else so we are playing a wait and see game, I will not have another CT scan until Febuary which will be 7 months since the surgery, sometimes I wish I lived elsewhere where they may be more proactive with treatment
kind regards

I just wanted to encourage you to find a Dr. who would look in to chemo for you. So many people have written that have waited and end up with another tumor. Is there someplace you can go? I am so thankful for the Dr's here that know there can be one little cell left. Good luck to you and please let me know how your CT goes (maybe you can get it done earlier??)

Peri - I'm not the patient, I was the caregiver. I just want to wish you and your husband the best of luck fighting this dreaded disease. Keep a good attitude - it makes all the difference. Hair grows back and the coughing will settle.

Thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers -

I too had my ll removed and had chemo for 4 cycles.. although you should call the doctor about the cough if you had it before the dx like i did it takes time for it to go away, but if you just got it I would talk to your pulmonologist and tell him or the oncologist what is going on.. I am happy you found us and pray for you that all will be ok..
call the doctor.. it maybe a cold from the chemo but you don't want to wait..

Lisa

thank you so much for your kind comments peri and i will certainly let you know what happens, the dr simply told us to seize the day which i suppose some people could say was encouraging depending on what side of the fence you were on, do you have an email address that i could get in touch with you if you would like to.

I was worried about the cough that I had after my surgery also. I was stage 3A. I had an upper right lobectomy. Before surgery I had 6 weeks of daily radiation and weekly chemo. After surgery I had two sessions of chemo three weeks apart. My scans have been good since my surgery. My surgery was in July-2005.

Seize the moment huh? It that a saying over there? I would hope we all would like to have good moments though. I get all of my replies thru my email so feel free to write.
Peri

the word he used was 'carpe dein' which translated means seize the day, I think it was to do with the large areas of adenohpyerplasia that they found, this means that the cells in the lungs have changed from normal cells. Guess that will teach me for having been a smoker. Anyway I am good at the moment and so will continue to hope and pray that this monster stays away, take care Raelene

Raelene,
My husband also has the condition you have. They told us that it is kind of a pre-cancerous condition. That is why the chemo. Don't beat yourself up about being a smoker. My husband quit 8 years ago but before that was a heavy smoker. Oh, only if we could go back, huh? Kind of sad. We see kids with a cig hanging out of their mouths and would like to slap them! Good luck with all of this and I will be praying for you!
Peri

thanks peri,

I will also be praying and thinking of you and your husband, have a wonderful xmas and new year, may all your wishes come true, take care
best wishes
raelene
