Hi there, sorry to hear about your mom. What type of chemo is she receiving? Has she had any radiation yet? What kind of shot? If it is a brain met, it can still be treated. Tell her not to give up hope. They may end up changing her chemo if it's not doing anything for the liver. Have they done any biopsies? Time to hang tough until you have more info. Let us know how she makes out. Take care, JC

thanks. i can't remember the chemo this time. this is her 3rd one. the first one worked great on the liver met, but not on the lung, eventually had to dial down the dose due to her getting so sick. then it quit working on the liver. then did a clinical trial, but that too failed to work on the liver, but did great on the lung. so third time around, not working on the liver per doc (no scan yet) just due to her symptoms.
she hasn't had any radiation yet. I believe the shot was neulasta, although i didn't go today, so i didn't remember but it is one she gets the day after chemo. she is convinced it is not in her brain, i'm not so sure.
it is what it is, so we just prepare for another fight. she is definitely a fighter! i just had her only granddaughter 4 months ago, so she has a lot to fight for, not to mention my 4 year old son and her other 4 grandsons! thanks so much for the encouragement! we need it!

Praying for good scan results, Karen

thank you so much.

ok. so good news. her brain MRI was clean! still don't know what is causing all her symptoms. Her oncologist was off today, so we will hear from him tomorrow. I was doing a little research and saw where when people have bone met that as the bones break down the calcium levels go up and can cause confusion, diarrhea/constipation, unsteadiness on feet, etc. which are all my moms symptoms. Has anyone had this and what can be done about it?
thanks!

My mom gets confused. I bought a book thats called "your brain after chemo". From what I understand, chemo can cause confusion. Esp when she is tired and not feelin good she really mixes things up.

God Bless

my father got very confused and not sure of wheer he was when he was dehydrated and low on magnesium and potasium. He was hositalized for about a week and his came back around. I thought it was mets but it was a bad reaction and he is back to normal.

Now a year later, he does have chemo brain. He is on his third type of chemo. He forgets things he told me or will think he told me. SOme could just be the aging process.

Best wishes- kristin

Mom went to doc on friday. Liver function not good at all. She was not able to walk. She drops stuff. She didn't know how to answer the phone. The onc says this is devastating. He feels it is a combo of chemo and cancer in liver. They gave her fluids and iv antibiotics. She seems better but not at all independent like she was less than a week ago. I read that high ammonia levels can cause this. We won't know her results til monday. We have lactulose to try and see if it helps. We are also going to call Duke hospital monday to get another opinion. The onc was not hopeful just said come back monday if we need to. Feels like he has given up. We are not ready to do that. She wants to fight. Has anyone ever heard of this and what was the outcome? Her chemo she got tuesday was Taxol. The major symtoms started wednesday. By friday she needed a wheelchair. She can get around with help now but she is pretty messed up. Please someone give me a straw to grasp. Thanks
