Hi

I would like to put something in my local newspaper about the Legislation Bill to allocate money for Lung Cancer research. How do I go about doing that? Can LCA send me something to put in the paper to encourage people to contact our senators about this life saving bill?
My personal e-mail address is TinaIrena@hotmail.com
Thank you!

I was thinking the same thing. I thought about writing another letter to the editor and giving the web address and/or writing a letter to the political & health reporters to consider doing an article on it. I'd love ideas, too.

hey, TinaIrena,
If it were me, I'd travel to Oz and ask the great and powerful one, Miss Amy, for some support - I'm positive she would be able to give you what you need - apearson@lungcanceralliance.org

hmmmmm.....maybe when I decide to change my picture, I might consider being Toto.....or a flying monkey....

Hi Tina,

Great thinking! A letter to the editor of your local papers would really get the word out and hopefully generate some buzz about the legislation.

Since most papers only allow a small word count, the letters need to be short and to the point. Start by introducing the legislation. Here are some talking points you can use:
--Introduced by Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Chuck Hagel (R-NE)

--First ever comprehensive multi agency authorizing legislation for lung cancer

--Authorizes $75 million in first year of five year plan

--Charges DOD, HHS, VA to develop coordinated plans to address lung cancer in its entirety

--Targets institutes within NIH that have nexus for cancer (lung cancer) research

Then share facts about the disease so the public knows why the passage of this legislation is so critical. We have state specific fact sheets, so let me know what you need.

Finally, give the call to action. Send people to LCA's website, www.lungcanceralliance.org, to send letters to their Senators. It is an easy process and will ultimately save lives!

Feel free to send me any draft letters to the editor and I will be more than happy to check for content and edit as necessary.

We need your help! The time is now! Thank you all for your continued support and dedication to the cause.
