Dear Suziegirl:

My onc gave me a prescription for anti-nausea meds.

Another item that used was ginger. It came in lozenges and also I brewed ginger tea. I really liked the tea. Also used licorice - "tasty" also.

Hope this helps! Wishing you the best!

Blessings!
Brooklynda

Thanks Brooklynda...i have a few different meds and do like ginger in various forms...sometimes nothing helps...good reminder on the licorice...thanks!

I don't know how this will go over here, but for my sixth - and hopefully last - round of chemo, I broke down and smoked some marijuana. I swore when I was 24 that I never would again, but those post-op chemos were killers, and I was really leery of stuff like Compozine. The "weed" worked like a charm; I'm glad I did it, and I'm glad it's over.

Mint tea worked wonders for me. I had a cup when I got home from chemo and never once felt nauseaus. Of course, maybe I wouldn't have anyway, but I credit the tea!

I dont think smoking marijuana is any worse / different than taking the dozens of meds I now have, since this journey began...but is it safe to smoke anything with LC? i just completed my 3 rd of chemo and for some reason had a bad reaction and was nasueas and in bed for over 2 daysa nd would love to avoid that for the next few rounds...MJ isnt legal in my state unfortunately...i guess you can buy it over the internet?

suziegirl.

Pot's illegal where I live, too. I don't know if you can buy it on the internet, and I don't want to know. A high school classmate of mine gave it to me; he's still smoking it after all these years. I only took two "hits" every few hours, so I don't think it really did my lungs any harm.

Put in brownies instead of smoking. My sister was dx with stg iv nslc and she has done and tried everything to keep from having to take it. She hasn't yet but whenever she is ready then it will be out there.

The chemo nurse told her to take her nausea medicine for the first couple of days even if she didn't feel nauseated because once it got going it was hard to stop. So be sure you are doing that.

Take care.

Ahhh good point to keep ahead...same thing with pain meds. So easy to just stop if the problem seems solved. I doubt i could choke downa brownie though.

My sister was fortunate enough that she did not get nauseated from the chemo but each round she took it for 2 days and then didn't take the meds as the night of and the next morning of the chem is usually the worst if you are going to get sick.

I am not a brownie person either but cookies wtih macademian (?) nuts is unresistable.

My husband's onc prescribed Zofran, and it did wonders for his nausea.

Promethazine! Words well for me.
