my mother in scotland

0 Recommendations

MY mother had an x ray and then a ct scan and they found a tumor. Now my poor mother is 80 and does not stick up for herself very well. She met with a doctor at one ehospital and the a week later went back for her appointment and was given spiriva. They said they will leave it for now and she has an appointment for 2 months. I ask does this sound normal or should i be worried about her. I will try and get to talk with her social worker on monday but i am worried until then

hoping all will be well..all is shared nicely.?

Hope all is well..Everything is shared nicely.

I don't think any tumor should be on a wait and see list. If possible, get a second opinion right away. I bet this is the National Health care you get in Scotland.

I would go for second opinion about waiting -- that said, it just might be her age and the doctor suspects that 1) it isn't cancer or 2) it is cancer and indolent. My best friend's grandmother was found to have a cancerous tumor at the age of 77 they decided to leave it... she passed away a couple of years ago, lung cancer finally got the best of her at the age of 96 -

If only we all could live to 96.

Good luck.

yes its the national health poor thing i talked with her this morning and she got a bit upset I think it must be on her mind all day. I cant wait till onday when i can talk to her social worker

mkubee thanks for your email I am going to call my mother again in a wee while and i bet your email while give her some peace of mind Can you believe i also have a friend that is not doing very well here in California and her 70 year old mother is taking care of her. Well it seems the nurse told the mother that her daughter wouldnt be around for halloween. Why would someone take hope away from a poor old lady. Maybe that will be true and she wont be around but you always have to have hope. Dont you?

I wouldn't worry too much. They found a tumour in my lung 2 years ago and I opted to wait and see it started growing on the last scan and i had it out by VATS on 17th Sept. I am 62 they removed my upper left lobe.
The NHS has been wonderful, free and open to all comers . Your mum is quite old for major surgery so they need to find out what it is doing first.
All the best

i have to say strawberry dude that the nhs is actually okay and usually works well but my poor mother doesnt like to ask too much questions and bother anybody. Last year she had an xray and the mentioned something about a hernia and then they mentioned celiac disease. ayear later nothing was done about hernia or celiac. She had a cough and i think luckily her regular doctor was off so the new one gave her antibotics that didnt work and the the x ray and then the cat scan. Like i keep saying i dont have much more info as my mothe doesnt ask much but then sits and worries when she gets home. She listens to George Galloway tonight so i am going to call her and make sure she is up. I dont know about his politicsbut at least she has something to keep her from being too lonely.

My Mother was Scottish too. Born in Dundee. All of her family are gone now but I miss the lilt of their accents. Wonderful memories.
