My mom

Hi All !

Been a while since I have been able to post on this site. I have been so busy with my mom. I was wondering if any of you can help me out with a few questions. My mom has not had any chemo or radiation for the last 18 weeks. Her doc said that he felt the chemo was causing more trouble than good. Since the chemo has stopped, I have noticed my mom is going down hill. Very, very tired, weak, confused at times. As of late she is experiencing neck pain and pressure in her ears. She said she feels as if she is talking under water. Her ear (mostly right) "pops". I talked to her dr about this and he didn't seem interested about it. She also has been talking about pressure in her right eye. If any of you have been through this and have any suggestions on how I can make my mom more comfy, please let me know. Thank you so much for any info you can pass on.

If you think your onco is NOT INTERESTED then CHANGE YOUR ONCO...

A good Doctor is what that can make or break things..
Just pls pls dont waste a minute and have second opinion.....

Also if she can not tolerate chemo then why dont your onco is not using any Targeted therapy drugs?

My mom had Pancreatic cancer and I have been through this same kind pain that you are having.....

My prayers are with you......

Yes, my mother had the same thing with the ears and sounding to her as if talking underwater! It must be related somehow because since she has been on chemo, it went away... interesting..
Oh yes!! Change the oncologist!!!

it is possible she needs to see an ear, nose and throat doctor, earaches and infections are now being reported again, so it may not be at all from her cancer or her treatments, ask for an appointment and have them take a look in the ear canal, It is worth it, the oncologist will blow you off most of the time for these kind of things. I found it best to get help from the professionals in whatever field it is the problems stems from. if it is from chemo they can tell you that usually also. but get that opinion anyway, and feel better you did. When we have cancer, and we get treated for cancer, all of the things that [possibly would have gone on anyway in our bodies, now suddenly turns to it is cancer back again, or is a side effect. Could very well be, but from my own experience, and many others, we found that some of these aches and pains are from other things.
Take care, anf Good luck.Sandy

I do not know what kind of cancer she has or what chemos she took. Cisplatin is known to make problems with the ears like you are under water. My Dr. talked to me about that before we started the chemo. If her Dr. does not seem concerned with her problems, I would find a Dr. that was. She may not can handle anymore chemo depending on the cancer and her health but I would at least want a Dr. that seemed to care.

You need an onc that cares. Mine makes me feel as if I am the only person that matters and I wish you were here and could see her.

Also, Sandy had the best sound advice. See an ENT. It is hard, but we have to remember that every little ache and pain is not cancer. I am only 42, but I have creak and cracks that I know are just from ageing, but there are times I will catch myself thinking what if? It is enought to drive you nuts. I just give it up to a higher power and get on will living.

Blessings,
Barb

I second Sandy and Barb and the others too.Prayers AndiB

Thanks all for your responses. I guess I have gotten caught up in the hype of blaming her small cell lung cancer for everything that goes wrong. Her Onc seemed so caring at the start of this. Now he seems like he has given up on her. She wants so badly to be able to walk and do all the things she use to do. Everyday I see her slipping .. mentally and physically. God bless & take care. Thank you for all your replies.

First of all, there are many "chemos." If the first was too toxic, the onc should be trying others.??????You need a different doctor!
