My Dad passed today...

My dad was having a CT scan this afternoon that had been scheduled earlier in the week by his oncologist. We were literally the last people to be seen today. We spent all day together as we just today found him a primary care doctor to handle his non cancerous issues. In the course of his conversation with his new primary doctor he made the statement "I want to be here as long as I can be..." to which his new doc responded, "when it's your time, it's your time..."

Two hours later was his time. He completed his CT scan and as he sat up, he had a heart attack and died on the CT. Of all the things I expected to happen today - that wasn't one of them. The last thing I said to him as he got up to get his CT was "I'll see you in a few minutes."

My heart hurts. I miss my dad so much already. He was a great man who was battling lung cancer with all he had. I am proud of his fight and am just so sad.

Anyhow, thank you all for your support through my brief time here. I thank God for all of the support here and my prayers go out to each and everyone here battling this condition. I'm not sure if I will come back here, I am not sure of anything right now. My best wishes to all of you...

Oh Darren - I am so very sorry this has happened so suddenly - I know how hard all of this has been on you - I am crying at my computer just reading your post - I am so sorry - the silver lining is that he had no pain - take some heart in that - My heart is breaking for you - guess that he was sneaking those ciggs didn't make a difference one way or another - funny how hindsight changes everything - I will pray that you find the strength to get thru this loss - Karen

Dear Darren,

My condolences on the loss of your dad. My mom died 7-31 and I am in pain, shock and just putting one foot in front of the other but getting through each day. I wish the same for you.

Oh Darren I am so so sorry for your loss. Like peyz I am sitting at my computer crying, what a shock. Take comfort in the fact he is at peace and no longer in any pain. I know exactly how you feel. I lost my dad 28 years ago and my mom to lung cancer 6 months ago. I will be praying for you.

I am so sorry for your loss, Darren. I lost my mother to small cell in April 2007 after a six month battle. My heart goes out to you, it truly does. I agree with Karen though that now he has no pain. My mother suffered terribly. This site inspires me, so come back if you feel like it. Know that you are in my prayers.

Darren,

I'm so sorry for your loss of your Dad. I know there is nothing anyone can say to make you feel any better, but I will pray for peace, healing and comfort during this difficult time for you and your family.

God Bless you,
Tammy

Darren,

I'm so very sorry for the loss of your dear father. Maybe this was God's way of sparing him from anything worse. He's at peace now and he knows that your loved and cared for him greatly. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family.

Khari

Dear Darren,
I can't even imagine what a shock this had to be to you and the rest of the family. Perhaps Khari is right in that it spared him further pain and suffering. I am so sorry for your loss. I am work right now and trying to hold back the tears as I write this. Take time to grieve and make sure you talk to someone about what you're feeling. It will help you get through this terrible time. Your Dad is at peace now and is in a place where he is completely healed. In time, I hope that will comfort you in some way. Take care and God Bless,
Jodi

Darren:
I am so, so sorry for your loss. I know how sad you must feel. I don't know if this will be comforting to you or not (and I apologize for writing it if it isn't) but I know that for me, I am more afraid of suffering than dying. At least your dad was able to live his life without having to suffer. Although he is gone in life, I know he is still with you.
Susan

Darren,
So sorry about your Dad. Please know that he has gone on to a better world! One with no pain, sickness or sadness. You will be together again!
Take one day at a time my friend and then go out there and live!
Our prayers are with you!

Darren
I am sorry for your loss. There is nothing I can say to make you feel better except to know that you have tons of people praying for you.

Hi Darren,

My condolences to you on the loss of your dad. I've always said I didn't want to die a lingering death of cancer. I wanted to go fast in a heart attack or die in my sleep. Of course, we don't know how our death will occur but I feel your dad went the way he wanted to.

Sending lots of hugs and prayers,

Bette
