Music that uplifts you....

1 Recommendation

Hello everyone... I just finished watching the video of Lee Ann Womack's "I hope you dance". I love this song!!!

I started thinking about all the other music that uplifts and comforts others. I've been thinking about buying an Ipod to have with me when I go in for my surgery next week.

Are there certain artists or songs that uplift you?.... bring you peace and comfort.

Looking forward to your suggestions.....
Blessing to all.
Sue

SuzzieQ,

I think Lorihope hit it on the head when she suggested a Christian song. I truly believe that music in of itself is divinely inspired. Not saying that all music is of God because there are some people out there that have created songs that are abhorable. Anyways, in my life I have found that music is the one thing I can fall into and foget the world... I also feel the closest to God when I'm listening to music that praises him. I feel like I can almost hear his voice speaking directly to me. The thought that the creator of the Universe would actually take time out of his busy schedule to talk to me, what a thing... As an addition, lsitening to worship that praises God and enjoying nature at the same time just defuses everything in my life... I tend to not even exist, the only thing that exists is God and his wonderful creation. My worries become insignificant to the wonders of his creation. Something as simple as sitting in the backyard with an Ipod strapped to your head listening to music that praises him is all that is needed... Here are some artist that I love and listen to on a regular basis. The music is contemporary so it is not boring or overbearing just nothing more than enlightneing...

Chris Tomlin
Darlene Zschech
Jaci Velasquez
Jenn Webber
Joy Williams
Mark Schultz
Rebbeca Saint James
BNarlow Girl
Toby Mac
Third Day
Warren Barfield
Watermark
Aaron Shust
Amy Grant
Avalon
Audio Adrenaline
Caedmon's Call
Casting Crowns
Delirious

I could go on for ever with the list. There are so many songs that I love but there is one that just stands out to me at this particular time. It is Mark Schultz "He's my son"... Here is a link to a site that list many Christian artist and you can go through and pick what appeals to you...

Hi all--

First of all this is a great thread. I danced with my son at his wedding to "I Hope You Dance". It was very special.

My current favorite inspirational song is Carrie Underwood How Great Thou Art.

Hopefully I was smart enough to make this link work!

Thank you Frank for the video and Dave and everyone.... I think that sometimes the sad songs are uplifting. I listened to Josh Groban when I would do chemo. Many would ask what I was listening to because of my face and sometimes tears. His Ave Maria and You are Loved, Dont give up. His voice is just unreal......And one of my favorites is In the Arms of the Angel by Sarah McLachlin. I need to quit listening to all these posted and get to work....God Bless!

Free Bird is MUST!!

Hi Sue,

You may want to do a search about the
Effects of Classical Music on Living Things.

Best regards,
Mary

I think the songs that uplift me (there are 3) you can let go now daddy by christal shawanda angels among us by alabama and go rest high on the mountain by vince gill. They are sad songs but they uplift me and remind me of my dad,

Mountains by Lonestar.

Lucinda Jones working at the IHOP:
Ten years worth of bacon, eggs, and tears.
She's waited on every creed and color
While waiting on this day to get here.
Graveyard shifts, two bit tips,
Making every quarter count.
It's worth it all to see her son in that cap and gown.

There are times in life when you gotta crawl,
Lose your grip, trip and fall
When you can't lean on no one else,
That's when you find yourself
I've been around and I've noticed that
Walk-in's easy when the road is flat
Them danged 'ole hills will get you every time.
Yeah, the good Lord gave us mountains so we could learn how to climb

Private Bobby Dunn came back from the war,
Lost his leg but they couldn't take his will.
Hell bent to run in that local marathon.
He trained through the endless pain and pills
It hurt so bad that sometimes he just had to cry.
He didn't stop until he crossed that finish line.

There are times in life when you gotta crawl,
Lose your grip, trip and fall
When you can't lean on no one else,
That's when you find yourself
I've been around and I've noticed that
Walk-in's easy when the road is flat
Them danged 'ole hills will get you every time.
Yeah, the good Lord gave us mountains so we could learn how to climb

This world ain't fair
It can knock you on your butt
You can just lie there or you can get back up
You gotta get back up

There are times in life when you gotta crawl,
Lose your grip, trip and fall
When you can't lean on no one else,
That's when you find yourself
I've been around and I've noticed that
Walk-in's easy when the road is flat
Them danged 'ole hills will get you every time.
Yeah, the good Lord gave us mountains so we could learn how to climb
Yeah, oh

Patty Griffin:

Hi Suz,
What a great question to ask. I believe that music can be the bridge between oneself and the hope that rests on the other side. I am a huge music fan. There's one artist that I stumbled upon by accident. Her name is Patty Griffin. If you hop onto ITunes, you can sample her music. I also like David Gray. They're two of my favorites. And by the way, Dave, that' s a great song that you put out there. Thanks for doing that!
Suz, GOOD LUCK with your surgery. It brings you one step closer to recovery...
~Frank

Dave - thank you for posting the lyrics ... powerful words! It is on my growing playlist :)
Sue

Here's the Lyrics to that Kid Rock song.

Up and down that lonely road of faith
I have been there
Unprepared for the storms and the tides that rise
Ive realized one thing, how much I love you
And it hurts to see, see you cryin
I believe we can make it through the winds of change

God is great indeed
If you believe, in the everlife
Yeah we gotta
Make some sense of the piece thats not defined
And if you just hold on, I wont let ya fall
We can make it through the storms and the winds of change

Though I walk through the valley of darkness
I am not afraid
Cause I know Im not alone

And if the wind blows east, would you follow me
And if the wind blows north, would ya stay your course
And if the wind blows west, would ya second guess
And if it blows to the south, would you count me out
And if the sun dont shine, would you still be mine
And if the sky turns grey, would you walk away
Would you say I do, if I say Ill be
And walk this road through life with me
You know I love youuuuuu

On this lonely road of faith
On this lonely road of faith
